Baltimore- holistic pediatrician? Albuteral for a virus?

Hello, I am asking for any leads on a holistic pediatrician in or near Baltimore- can anyone help?

Also, my husband took my son to the doctor (after about two weeks of on again off again fever and coughs) and came home with a prescription for albuteral and an inhaler t treat a "viral" infection. I have not been able to get through to my doctor to ask questions- does anyone have any thoughts or comments?

Albuterol is a medication that opens up airways. It doesnt matter what kind of infection it is, if a child cant breathe, is wheezing, or is coughing severely a doctor is likely to prescribe albuterol. Basically, albuterol is prescribed to deal with the symptoms of the infection, not to get to the root of the infection.

Did the doctor do a nasal swab for pertussis or test for strep?

Thanks for replying. This is what I figured! I am giving him Sambucal and acidophilus, hopefully to address the root cause. I must take off work next time so I can communicate with the doctor himself- my husband is not a great question-asker!

They prescribed Albuterol for my daughter when she was around a year old. We never used it because her cough cleared up before I got the prescription filled, she had a viral infection, we all had it but she was the only with a prescription I guess because of her age and the severity of her cough. Her whole illness lasted about 10 days though. But from what I was told like the other poster said, it was just to relieve her symptoms and make her breathing easier but would not help her get better, unless it was helping her rest at night, her cough was worse at night. But I like I said, we never got it filled, but the time I could make it to the store her cough started clearing up.
