vitamin D drops... « Back to Group Discussions

Anyone giving their babes Vit. D drops?  I never had to worry about it with DS because he was born in May and we were outside a lot.  This time around, basically going into winter I worry about it a bit more, but haven't really done anything about it yet.  I take vit. D when I remember, but is that enough to pass through to my LO?

Peds usually recommend supplementation with vitamin D from birth. I personally don't like giving a baby anything but breastmilk if I don't have to (though I did do oral vitamin K and probiotics with both of them) so I supplement myself with 6400IU a day. This is the amount that a study said would be enough to pass into breastmilk in adequate amounts from maternal supplementation. Once I start solids around 6 mo, I start giving Carlsons D drops directly to baby as well and continue to do so forever! Hope this helps.

the country i am in recommends 400IU from 4 weeks. i couldnt find any vegan d drops in that dosage but i found a spray. started spraying S yesterday. not too difficult.
