Sunken in soft spot?? « Back to Group Discussions

Hmmm... Nico's soft spot on the top of his head suddenly looks sunken in today- I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that yesterday. Normal??

I just observed the same thing on James a day or so ago. I think it's ok although it is a little unnerving to me to actually see the soft spot, especially since my 4 year old is obsessed with touching James' head! It just so slightly indented.

In my babies, that was a sign of insufficient milk intake, though my breasts don't work like those of 99% of mothers'. I suggest a weight check.

I agree. It's probably fine but can be a sign of dehydration. Are you getting lots of wet diapers?

Loads of wet diapers. I change about 10 diapers A DAY.

I had this one day too- my understanding is that while it can be a sign of dehydration, that is not always the case. If Nico is peeing up a storm, I'd chalk it up to normal.

(Speaking of soft spots, though.. I'm generally pretty relaxed, and don't go to the 'oh no something's seriously wrong' place very easily. But the first time I looked at R.'s head and saw her soft spot PULSING.. goodness gracious. Who knew that happened? Nooot meeeeee.. :-o )

Yep.  I've noticed sometimes it seems more prominent than others (like, I notice it a lot or don't sometimes).  I think often it's a case of noticing it, then seeing it ALL THE TIME because you're really looking at it and such.

I'd suppose that if output is good then the input is good as well.

Yeah, we have that over here too. He's got enough hair that I never saw it, but I feel it when I pet him.  Yes, I pet my baby.  lol

Anyway, I'm not worried cause his output is well A LOT!  He's chubby and growing, and healthy, so I chalk it up to normal for him.

He also has a pretty bumpy head all around too.  :D

I never saw my DD1s fontanel because she had so much hair. This new bald one I'm really seeing lots more of the changes it goes though each day. Yes, some times it looks sunken. I brought her to see the ped about another thing and asked her about it, she says fluctuations are normal and expected.
