Any one else struggle to gain weight during pregnancy?

I have this problem EVERY TIME! I eat to hunger-I don't try to limit myself in any way. I eat healthy (the occasional hamburger or taco bell but nothing ridiculous) I do the occasional splurge with some cookies or ice cream...I drink whole milk I primarily stick to good whole foods and grains. I just have a hard time getting into the 20+ lb weight gain  range. I have babies that are in the 6.5-7.7lb range (none late, all on time or early) and are healthy...and it feels like this baby is a 'good size' but I just can't get the scale to budge!!!! anyone else?

Oh, but I have NO problem gaining weight while breastfeeding, which is weird.

I don't know if I am struggling.  I have gained a little over ten lbs.  The OB was raising his eyebrows at me  about it.  My new midwife doesn't care as long as the other measurements are good.  This is only my second.  I gained a full 35 last time.  He was 6 lbs 2 oz.  About ten days early.

I think as long as you are eating well and the other measurements are good....  I wouldn't mind putting on a few more lbs as I was starving while breastfeeding and went well under my start weight during that time.

I do eat as much ice cream as I want and blame it on the doctor.  But really, I'd do that anyway. :)

Are you worried?

Nope, not worried at all, really-but it is disconcerting when people are like 'WHAT? are you starving yourself???' and I'm really not! Thank you for the response, it's good to know others understand!

Yes my Ob kept saying, " As long as you aren't calorie restricting." about 17 times each visit.  In case I would admit it after repeatedly bringing it up....  Haha.  I eat all the time.  I just have a lot of other things to do to.  Like move a household and raise a three year old.  I can only imagine with 5 other littles!!

So far, this pregnancy is following the same pattern as my first.  I didn't gain weight at all in the first trimester, and then started gaining during the middle of the second, so still ended up around 20 - 25 pounds gained total.  My OB was fairly conservative, and he would always want to do extra ultrasounds throughout, just to make sure that everything was on track.  My son was still born at 8 lbs 9 oz, and I feel like this little girl will probably be about the same.  I've switched recently to a midwife group, and they are not concerned at all.

I just finally got to 10 pounds gained at 29 weeks. Most midwife visits have ended with "if you want to gain some weight, it would be OK" but baby has been measuring right on schedule so no real hassling. My mom said she gained very little with me and I came out at 7-1/2 pounds, so I don't figure the scale is the part that really matters. Sure, I could make the doctors happy and eat tons of crap to make the scale tick up (well, in theory there are enough calories out there to make me gain some unhealthy pounds), but that doesn't mean baby would be healthier ... so I don't worry about it.

Thanks for the reassurances, ladies :) I feel better.

For me, I started the pregnancy over my "normal" weight by about 10 lbs... I guess it was due to the hypothyroid issues.  I gained a bit of weight (about 15 lbs) and then when they upped my thyroid medication dosage I actually LOST five lbs... So THAT is apparently a cause for concern.  My appetite did go down a bit but I'm still eating healthy, and fi you count from my "normal" weight (125-130) instead of my actual starting weight (139), the fact that I'm now at 155 is OK - It's like 15-20 lb gain.  But if you count from starting weight, it's "only" 10 lbs... eh.  Whatever.

With DS, I was like 145 when giving birth (severely malnourished due to untreated HG).   With DD I ballooned to 185 lbs but most of that was water weight.  I feel fine now.

Now I just wish I didn't have the whole cellulite thing going on... that part is the worst.  If I could gain weight and NOT have that, I'd be fine...

I wish!  With DS #1, I gained 50 lbs!!!  I started out at 120-125, though.  He was 7 lb 7 oz at 10 days early.  I did have a ton of swelling with him, though, and carpal tunnel so bad I couldn't even bathe myself without pain!

With DS #2, I gained 40 lbs, after starting out at about 125-130.  He was 8 lb 3 oz at 4 days late.  No swelling whatsoever.  Or heartburn.

This time, I *think* I have gained about 20 lbs (I'll have to see at my appt next week.) so far, but I started off at like 140. :(  I'm hoping to gain no more than 35 this time.

Looking forward to nursing the pounds away and hopefully getting back down to 125ish for the long haul!

Sounds like you are doing fine!
