Queer, Pregnant, and Parenting! November, December, and January 2013!!! - Page 22

Bigfoot, I hope your son takes the news well. I think it changes the family dynamic a lot to add a baby and the teen years are something I haven dealt with as a parent yet. If you have any thoughts on parenting a teen, I'm all ears. My little man hasn't hit puberty yet, but I know it's coming someday.

Desert, you will know a lot more about Hanukkah after a year! There are oodles of Hanukkah crafts online, so you will be able to find something perfect in plenty of time.

Some silliness for the ladies on bed rest, I tried the 2 babies one wrap thing this morning. My wrap is 5 yards long and just barely tied. The front is too low to put 2 little babes in the front, but I'm still thinking. We have a rabbit, maybe he could stand in as a third baby for testing? In the beginning I would probably do 2 slings. One or two babies per sling. We do 2 slings all the time and I have carried 3 1 year olds in the manner I'm suggesting (screaming, 2 had sunscreen in their eyes).
Anyway, I tried pictures myself and results were comical. O finally helped me out. The 2 babies 1 wrap.

seraf -I placed an order for a Bali breeze using my Christmas money from the in-laws. Got the confirmation that it's shipping, so I will have it in a few days! I am definitely going to try the cat stand in to practice for whenever we have a new baby! What an ingenious idea! My mother has the perfect cat that would go along with it, ours is still a feisty kitten. Too small and NOT declawed!

Double post! Dang tablet...

Lol, I was totally joking about using cats. Y'all are cracking me up. Esenbee, did you do much baby wearing with your oldest? All our slings and wraps are homemade, but Sara got an Ergo recently that I've been learning to use.

HA! Even though you were joking, it's a good idea! I have only worn DD a few times with a buckle carrier. It didn't quite work out for either of us. That was when she was around 6 mo. or so.

Yes, agreed! Knew you were joking, Seraf, but what a great idea anyway! Haha, I got permission from my friend with the Pom so we will probably have to try a dog/cat combo (the cat is a young super feisty cat with claws...but way better to use than the grumpy old one that also has claws). I can't wait to try it...maybe after this next weekend if we get some more wraps from our shower. So far, we have had one given to us as a hand-me-down but people know that we are planning on doing lots of baby wearing. This thread is going to get very interesting... smile.gif

ETA: I suppose I could also just ask my friends that have babies....to be honest though, I think I would have better luck getting permission to practice with the dog than their children. redface.gif

We always used a gallon of water or milk to practice carriers (car seats, too, so we knew which was most comfortable to hold with weight in it).  It's weight is similar to a newborn, although you miss out on the wiggliness that will come with the animals!

Lise, Yeah, if I had easy access to some babies, I would try tripple holds for you. Your belly is probably getting to be in the way now. I'm picturing something like this, with a wrap in the beginning.

oh hai, im moving myself over here from QC. bigfoot is my wife. wow it is weird to type that.

this cat wearing conversation is cracking me up. we have 2 cats - one is very sweet, but she loses her mind if you pick her up. the other is a crotchety old man cat who hates everything. if i tried to wear them, it would be a bloodbath. Although I think we have a photo somewhere of our teenager wearing one of the cats inside of his hoodie, as if it were a sling. the pomeranian sounds like a good candidate.

i had my third beta today - 2014 @20DPO i guess my denial that this is happening is kind of wearing off? we have a first ultrasound on Jan 8 to see what's going on in there. and then we'll probably tell our son. that sound be interesting.horrors.gif

mrsandmrs- Welcome and congratulations! joy.gifWelcome.gif

There is a very special lady on this forum who sent me some of her lactation drugs and I want to thank you!!! bow.gif
I got them in today. 1/2 day on Domperidone, results = no difference. The midwife I saw today said I should see some results by three weeks time but I should be prepared to not get a full milk supply. I appreciate the setting your hopes low so you do not get disappointed perspective but I also am secretly hoping I will be an award winning lactater. Sheepish.gif

Welcome, mrsandmrs.

Everyone ----   I have been away for a while -- enjoying the first trimester -- and I just checked the front page of this thread and saw the news about nosreves' little Elio. I can hardly believe it and am so, so sad for noreves and her partner. They had to go through so much, traveling out of country to conceive, as most of you know. And nosreves was very supportive to me when I was struggling to get pregnant. I know she's probably not reading this. I'm not connected with her on Facebook. If anyone has a chance to mention it to her, I want to tell her I am thinking of her family with deep sympathy and support.

Outdoorsy, she said she probably wouldn't be back here for a long time. She has even gone dark on Facebook. They are understandably devastated but I will send her an email for you. I've been thinking a lot about her as the one month anniversary of Elio's birth draws near.

Seraf - you asked about thoughts on parenting teens. For me, it has been as tough as they stereotypically say. I felt like I was really great at all the other ages, from baby to preteen. The teenager was what I would consider an "easy kid," if there is such a thing. And he hasn't been a difficult teenager, but the adjustment to just the typical mood swings, not listening, and distance has hurt my feelings a lot considering what a tight bond we had for so long. I'm getting better at it all the time, and the wife (who came into parenting when he was 11) offers a good balance, thankfully. My mother-in-law has really good advice on parenting teens. She says to look at it as a period of mental illness. It sounds harsh, but when you consider everything happening inside their bodies with hormones and brain growth and the way it hampers decision making and stuff, it makes sense. For me that attitude helped give me more compassion instead of being angry and annoyed. And the wife and I each believe we were truly horrendous teenagers to our parents, so we remind ourselves of how good we have it on a regular basis. Now that I've made it sound terrible, I should say it is awesome watching your kids have success as almost adults and there is still a lot of joy and fun and milestones to be had. And we must be doing something right if our sixteen year old still likes hanging out with us, right?

Happy 2013, everyone! We took down the tree and are baking some cookies before heading back to work and school tomorrow. Early pregnancy has caused us to slow down and rest a lot, which is refreshing.

Bigfoot, temporary mental illness it is! I was an awful teen, too, my siblings just showed me up.

I keep thinking about triple babywearing. Here's what I came up with today. a mai tie and 2 pouch slings (I couldn't find my pouch slings, but you'll hear all about that in the video - I don't know how to edit it out).  I could nurse any of the babies in this carry which would be good after about 3 months adjusted and took less than 3 minutes.
