We bought a car last night, so we are officially no longer car-free. But we are moving to an Ecovillage, I hope that balances everything out in the long run. We're moving Sunday, I am so stressed out. 

I'm thinking about keeping a blog about the whole experience. Would anyone be interested in reading about two families house-sharing and living in an Ecovillage in rural British Columbia?

Jasper did well with his surgery. He also slept straight through from 2-5:30 am, so not nursing wasn't an issue!

Kirsten, I would read that blog. Mostly for the rural British Columbia part. Sounds like the complete opposite of metro/ suburban Georgia!

Sonja - it's called the Yarrow Ecovillage. It's located an hour's drive east of Vancouver, between Abbotsford and Chilliwack. It's a cohousing development, 20 acres of organic farmland (farmed in small chunks by a few farmy families who live in the village) and will eventually include a seniors cohousing develeopment and a commercial component (where the food co-op, cafe and brew pub will go).

Amanda, I'm so glad Jasper's surgery went well.  I can't believe I somehow missed all the conversation prior about him needing to get surgery.  Belated ((HUGS)).

AFM, I've been sick for forever at this point.  Yes, that's a real amount of time.  It started weeks ago and I thought it was just allergies, so I upped my allergy meds.  Then the cough started and it has steadily worsened.  I finally broke down while my in-laws were here and got abx.  Dh had gone in a few weeks ago for his cough and was told he had walking pneumonia, so I figured it was time to take care of this.  This is day five of my z-pack and I'm not any better.  It's frustrating.  I'm up almost every night, coughing for an hour or more.  Every time I have to roll over, sit, get up, etc. to deal with a kid, I start to cough and it's all over.  Last night I us up at 2am hacking and had to leave the room so I didn't wake up Avery.  I was up for almost an hour before heading back to bed where after just an hour Avery woke up and I started to cough again.  I tried to get him back to sleep, but it's difficult when you're coughing in his head while trying to nurse and cuddle him.  So I finally went to dh and asked for assistance.  He sighs and then proceeds to take 10 minutes to wake up, get out of bed, go to the bathroom, etc. etc.  Finally I hand him off and go into the other room to try and sleep sitting up.  I get maybe an hour of broken sleep and Austin wakes up.  Does dh get up and help him?  No, I do.  Then I hear Avery wake up in the other room.  Does dh get up and help him?  No, I do.  Finally I can't take it anymore and I blurt out, "can you get out of bed and help?!"  He responds with, "what do you think I did last night?"  UM, that was at 5am after I had been up All Freaking Night coughing or taking care of Avery.  He slept until 5am like a log and now that it's 7am, he's too tired to get up?  Oh, wait, and now you want to go for a run this morning?  Huh, I see.

Okay, end rant.  I need to get well so I can some sleep so I can regain my sanity.  This is beginning to feel a lot like last November when I was crazy from a sinus infection, sleep deprived, and massively pregnant.

I'm sorry you're sick and frustrated, Jaimee.  I'm dealing with something similar. I've been perpetually sick with one thing or another in the past 6 weeks and I don't know what to do at this point. It's so unusual for me to get sick THIS easily! Now I've had a weird sore throat for 2 weeks that is starting to worry me considering I stopped getting sore throats when I got my tonsils out 12 years ago and it seems isolated to one part of my throat. I don't have an internal medicine doc at the moment and have been procrastinating on getting one. Ugh. I'm determined to fight whatever I have on my own since I have been *very gradually* getting better with my sinus infection and other symptoms, and I'm so paranoid about antibiotics atm. I hope this all goes away by Sora's birthday!

On a different note, I'm putting feelers out for different work opportunities. A coworker has been targeting me and complaining about me to our boss (she just doesn't like me apparently!) and it has created so much drama that I have no interest in having in my life. Our boss has totally mismanaged the situation too and I told her as much yesterday! I asked her to meet with me privately to discuss what was going on, and towards the end I come to find out she is drinking in our meeting?! She had Captain in her cup! I just left the meeting shaking my head. Who openly drinks alcohol at work? And a manager?! Come on... Then an hour later my MALE coworker stirs up a conversation about extended breastfeeding. The other woman working with us went on a tangent about how crazy she thinks it is to nurse past infancy (they kept focusing on 5 years old?) and they were making fun of it endlessly. I calmly interjected once or twice about the WHO and pediatric recommendations for nursing length and also mentioned the health benefits to the child, but they thought it was crazy in general so I dropped it. The one woman went into saying, "I had to go right back to work with each of my kids and no way in h*ll was I going to pump. I Similac'd that sh*t right from the start!" Yes, her words. I cringed and cringed and cringed.

I feel like there is something weird going on in the world.  Everyone I know is sick, and I am noticing an uptick in meanness.  What is going on?  Joanie, I am so sorry there is drama at work.  That is so tough.  And Jaimee, I wish I had some magic cure for you.  Probably you need rest more than anything, but looks like getting enough rest (or even a bit of it) is hard.  Can you get a sitter in during the day so you can get a nap?

Amanda, I am so relieved Jasper is doing well!!!  I hope his recovery is swift.  How did you know there was something up with his ducts?

Kristin, I would check your blog every.single.day!  I would love it to read a blog about living in an ecovillage.  You mentioned getting  a new car.  I just found my dream, dream, dream car:  Tesla Model X.  OMG.  I would need to win the lottery, but seriously OMG.

Wow, Jaimee, doesn't he know that sleep deprived sick women are harder to live with? Or even that, if you ask for help uts because tou need it? I'm sorry you got no sleep. Tell him you're going to spend the night in a hotel so you can heal and he can just hold down the fort for one night?

Zippy, we're not sick! Mean maybe, but healthy. Big kids never got the pox (yet?) so we are solidly in the healthy camp. What's this tesla car I keep hearing about?

I am sorry for all the drama in everyone's lives ... be it sickness or just mean people... sucky.  Maybe the changing season?

Eli isn't very happy ... he cried/whined nonstop all afternoon/night.  It didn't help that my darling hubby had to work till 11pm.  I was about to loose my mind.  Nothing helped.  We went for a walk to the park, played, walked some more, looked at ducks, peacock, seagulls ... leaves and trees and dogs ... NOTHING.WORKED.... I think he is getting teeth somewhere because he has a bad drool rash around his mouth from it being wet constantly...  

I am thankful that the sun is shining, makes for better walks and trips to the park :) and it boosts my mood.  I am so not ready for winter ...

Also, Zippy (sorry, can't see your name on mobile!! I am awful) Jasper used to get really bad, chronic eye infections. Those mostly went away, but he still had a lot of tearing. The tears would just pool in his lower lid and run down his face. They couldn't drain into his nose like they should. Though, I haven't seen any improvement yet. In fact, he is getting an infection! Bummer. He has drops, though

Jaimee, I am so sorry. I agree with the hotel idea... Let him live a night in your life. Then maybe he'll appreciate what you do a little more and realize that you're only asking for help because you NEED it... Men.

Joanie, I don't think any job is worth that stupid bullsh*t drama. Some people NEVER grow up. And if I caught my manager drinking on the job, I'd go right over their heads and tattle. I'm not above that.

Amanda, I'm glad the surgery went well. I'm sorry he's getting an infection though. =( Maybe you'll see better results once the infection clears up.

I'm about 95% sure Conner has an ear infection. Not only has he steadily been sleeping 8p-10a, with a two-hour nap thrown into his day somewhere, he's fussy, fussy, fussy. And today, I've noticed he's constantly tugging at his right ear. Like, constantly. It's beat red from him messing with it so much. And of COURSE it's Saturday, so I'm going to try to hold off until Monday to go his regular doctor (His one-year appt. is Thurs., so I'm  hoping they can just bump it up for us.). Our insurance is no good and I don't want to pay a $25 co-pay plus 20% coinsurance to go to Urgent Care... Although I will if it gets worse. Other than that, we're all healthy. His 8th tooth popped through recently (The bottom right one), and it's been coming out quickly! It's already half the size of the other two teeth he's had down there for months.

My little sister had irregular contractions for 4 hours last night. They were about 10 minutes apart. She's 35 weeks! She weighed a whole 100lbs (Soaking wet) before she got pregnant, so maybe this kiddo's going to come early and give us a Turkey baby instead of a Christmas baby. =) We thought it'd be awesome if both of our parents' grandkids were born on a holiday, LOL.

DH and I are probably going to be getting new cars soon. My car recently started leaking oil, and it's going to cost more to fix it than what my car's worth... And with what we pay for DH's truck ($500/month!!!), we could buy two brand new cars... So that's what we're hoping to do. (My Dad is a supervisor at a Ford distribution plant in ATL, so we'll get 5% off dealer's cost.) I can't really be surprised. My car's almost 11 years old and has 130,000 miles on it... I should have known this was going to happen sooner or later, LOL.

Keep in mind that the majority of ear pulling is because of teething, not ear infections.  If he just popped out a tooth, he could be experiencing discomfort from that in his sinus cavities, which is why they pull on their ears.  Usually an ear infection would be accompanied by a fever.  Does he have a fever?  Have you tried giving him some Motrin to see if he feels better?  Certainly some ear infections get pretty bad and can rupture the drum, but this is not very common and they will clear up on their own without abx, which is way better for their little unsealed systems.

I didn't realize ear pulling could be teething related! We have been wondering if Shay had an ear ache, but he seemed more like he was playing with his ear. I have been pretty lucky, my kids have never had an ear infection (that I know of).

Nicole, I'm amazed that you have so few miles on your car. My car is 5 years old and has more than that.

His cheeks are flushed. I gave him some medicine and teething tablets... One of them helped. Haha. My DH and I both had chronic ear problems as kids, so we're shocked he's only had one so far... I've had 4 sets of tubes and permanent hearing loss in my right ear. DH had one set.
We don't travel in my car at all. I haven't driven it out of the city in years. My DH has always had a nicer car, so we've always taken his.
