I would agree that if weight gain is stressing you out, stay away from the scale! Our bodies were meant to gain weight during pregnancy-- we need all the fat stores we can get in order to breastfeed. I talked with my midwife about large babies the other day and she recommended laying off the carbs if I was really concerned. So that's not going to happen but I'm going to try to choose protein over carbs for snacks from here on out.

This is what I've been doing too. Not really because of trying to avoid gain, but because of lack of room. It's hard for me to get the right amount of nutrients every day, but I choose protein over everything else.

I've gained a lot this pregnancy (27lbs... since 11 or 12 weeks .. eek) and i'm also worried about a big baby - but i've always gained 40-45lbs and my biggest baby was 8lbs 2oz, i just had such a hard time with my (7lb 6oz) DD2's birth (she got stuck) that i worry anything bigger will make it harder this time..  i keep telling myself i'm going to avoid sugar and extra carbs in the 3rd trimester.. i already hardly have any sugar..   i started out weighing less this time than in any of my other pregnancies a lot of good that did me since despite my much healthier lower sugar diet i've still gained enough to make up the difference..

I started out 5 pounds heavier than my first pregnancy, but I have been able to loose the weight within 6-9mos without too much stress. Breastfeeding normally drops me down about 10 pounds prepregnancy weight, but as soon as it tapers down--I go up. Oh well. I rather have a healthy body than a particular number on the scale.

On the other hand, I have only weighed myself twice this pregnancy and I am okay with it. I don't like how I gain my weight in my thighs & butt & very little elsewhere. I wish it was a bit more evenly distributedsmile.gif  I have gained between 25-30 pounds with each pregnancy.

i don't think mama's weight gain has that much to do with baby size, but definitely carbs and sugar can contribute to larger babies. I think it is mostly genetic, unless you have issues like GD.... My MW has me avoiding sugar as well, as both DS's were 9+ lbs. I only gained 30 lbs with both of them though, and at 27 weeks (tomorrow) have only gained about 12 lbs so far this pregnancy. DS1 got a little stuck, but I was induced and had a 17 hour labor, was EXHAUSTED after 2.5 hours of pushing, plus he was my first baby and was 9.3 lbs. DS2 was 9 lbs even, I had a 2.5 hour labor, and he was out in 3 contractions (about 15 minutes of "pushing").. but my MW is still concerned about me having a baby bigger than 9/10 lbs.. It is going to be SO hard to stay away from sugar during Thanksgiving and Christmas!

I was 30 lbs lighter Pre-Pregnancy this time than I was at DS2's Pre-pregnancy weight (and 20 lbs lighter than Pre-DS1 weight.. I gained 10 lbs between the two of them).. but even losing 30 lbs I was/am still having issues with my new mommy body. :/ At least at this weight I look pretty good with clothes on. ;)
