Feeling agitated while nursing 22 mo at night...

Hey. My third child is 22 months old. I nursed my other two until 18 and 19 months, day and night, every couple of hours and then weaned. I wanted to try child-led weaning this time..but just like with the last two, I'm getting so agitated...a little bit physically, but maybe it's more mental, on the nipple. I just get itchy and feel like I want him to stop nursing. It's bugging me that my son will nurse on and off, but mostly on for over an hour at night to fall asleep. Driving me nuts. I don't have the patience for it.

What do you suggest...should I just wean or do other moms experience these feelings and overcome them?

My 19 month old is thirsty at night and keeps nursing and nursing too. I find that if I offer her a sippy of water, she quenches her thirst quickly and then goes into comfort nursing mode more. If I don't have water, she will take 45 mins to an hour to nurse down. Water cuts it to about 20-30 mins. She does pee more at night but I find she nurses down quicker and easier.
For me daytime nursing feels better and sometimes at night I do get that icky/touched out feeling. I'm trying to slowly nightwean to help DD sleep better and spare me a bit too. I also want to go the CLW route but I think it's ok to place some limits at this age. Limits = happier mommy = more nursing in the long term. Win-win I think! joy.gif

I don't think it necessarily has to be a reason to wean. I remember getting a claustrophobic/need to flee/move sort of feeling for a while when he was younger but it went away and I managed to continue nursing until my son was ready to stop (5yo). Sometimes if it got really bad I would just say I needed a quick break, would go pee or even just wash my hands or something, then come back. If you take a quick break does that help you to get over it? He didn't like having to wait, but it was preferable to not nursing. Occasionally, he even fell asleep in that short time while I was gone!

IIRC it got much better as he got a bit older and started to nurse for less and less amounts of time. There was just a hard period where he wasn't falling asleep quickly and wanted to nurse the whole time. Sometimes that was also an indicator he was just not ready to be sleeping yet. Frustrating, but worked out better to get up, expend some energy and try again later.
