How is everyones weight loss/toning up going postpartum?
On day 10 of keeping a food journal. I'm averaging 2700 calories a day and that is watching everything I eat and subbing veggies for bread. What gives? I must eat like a cow usually cause when I was looking online a lot of men were complaining about how much food a 3000 calorie a day diet is. I was like, whaaa?
I must love food a whole lot more than I thought cause I could totally eat 3k cals a day.... Do any of you gals have any idea how many calories you take in a day?
Anyways, thanks to Costco's chocolate banana muffins at 700 calories a piece I was forced to realize that Costco muffins are up there with cigarettes on my 'thing I get addicted to' list and I have sworn them off completely. Naturally there remains ONE chocolate chip muffin sitting next to the coffee pot that has been mocking me for 3 days now.
must.must.must get back to pre baby weight.
I haven't even weighed since Dodiboo was 6weeks old. I was 14 pounds larger than my largest. I then went on a muffin and cheese and heavy cream binge. Oh, and coca cola. I think one day I counted I had drank 4 cans...
*sigh*
Oh well..I turn 30 years old this week. I know DH wanted to do something for me but I'm pretty sure he has done nada. Haven't spoke to my mom or sister since Dodiboo was 10 days old.
It would give me a small measure of comfort if I could weigh myself and find out I'm 5 pounds lower than the last time I weighed - haha..but not sure if I should risk weighing cause ---what if I'm 20 pounds more? haha...I so do not want to be crying cause I'm huge and 30 years old and my dh forgot my bday and waaaaaaaaaaaaah.
Maybe I'll eat the damn muffin on my bday...lol
I think we may be experiencing a nursing strike in the household. The last two days Dodiboo has not really wanted to nurse. She wants food, but not so much milk. I finally pumped and gave her a sippy cup after she refused the breast all AM. She drank it all in the sippy cup. This is day 2 or 3 where she is just not interested in nursing and I feel like I have to force her.
Maybe AF changes the taste of the milk??
I guess this could be my opportunity where I could start a schedule with her. Like nursing on demand at night but set times during the day? This nursing business is all new to me.
Day 4 of AF and its finally lightening up and going away. Hooray.
Anyone heard from SmilingSara? Just1?
Onemore - Happy upcoming Birthday! I say eat the muffin and then be done with them. It would be wasteful not to, right?
Maryam - sounds intense! I hope that getting some help with be really beneficial for you and bring you some rest!
Weightloss - well first of all I gained 40+ while pregnant. Who knows how much it really was because I stopped counting after 40 and refused to look when the MW weighed me toward the end. I feel like it took me forever to be able to wear any of my regular clothes. Now I can pretty much fit into most of my pre-pregnancy clothes. Things that were loose now fit just right and anything that used to be close fitting is out of the question still. And my shirts are all snug across the chest. DH is still fascinated by my cleavage.
I just stepped on our super inaccurate scale and it says I'm at least 5 lbs over pre-preg weight.
We have been battling some crazy diaper rash. We were using prefolds and PUL covers and All Free & Clear detergent (I know, bad CD mama). First it was very minor rash all over his tush. I changed to RnG and started using wool covers. It cleared up and then we got a new rash all around the front part. It's much more severe and looks a bit like hives. This coincided with a couple of the new wool covers so I'm not sure it something was in them. I developed a wool swap and diaper swappers addiction! Went to the doc who just prescribed an antifungal medication. I switched to sposies to see if I could clear it up. It's been a week of the sposies, nystatin, butt paste routine and it still looks awful. I've also tried weleda and coconut oil. We've only given him one bath with baking soda because he hates baths so we just don't do it that often. We use pure & natural huggies wipes. I don't think it's the wipes that are causing it because the rash is not all over, just around the front. And it isn't in the folds so doc doesn't think it's a yeast infection. So wierd... I recently got the GMD "how to" booklet for cloth so I think this week I'll wash the washing maching and strip all my prefolds again and go back to cloth. I'm trying to figure out a safe way to deal with the wool... I just invested a lot of money in our new woolies and don't want to ruin them since I only got to use them for a little over a week so far. Any suggestions mamas? I've been reading a lot in the CD forum, but prefer to post here.
MLog:
Does it help at all to leave the diaper off for extended diaper free air time? We had terrible diaper rashes all summer here (much better now) and using warm water washcloths (no wipes) and no diaper/fresh air would really help to clear it up. And really frequent changes...

Mamas I keep wanting to post but I am just too rushed and harried. Quickly, DS is 6months 1 week, he is great, he sits and scoots and rolls across the room (cute) to get what he wants. he is LOUD. Really loud. Lots of babbling going on. Eating solids etc etc.
PP weightloss - technically, I've lost all the 52 (!) pounds I gained while pregnant but... my stomach feels like it will never be the same! I had an umbilical hernia from DS1 and diastis rectii from both babes. I fit into all my old jeans now but my belly is just different and soft and doesn't feel right. I try to do the exercises for it... sometimes.
Life is nuts. DS sleeps from 6:30 til 5-ish most nights but I still feel really tired. I feel like I'm out of balance hormonally. Interesting to hear about other mamas 6 month pp funk because I kind of have that going on.
The big stressor for me right now is that I have to leave baby overnight for TWO NIGHTS for a work trip. In two weeks. I am really, really unhappy about it.
OK gotta go pump and work.
Nice hearing from you all!
WE LOVE YOU rOZZIE! UPDATE US WHENEVER YOU CAN!
OOPS...cap lock.
but really, we do! lol
Mlog, whoa! poor baby...for wool I just air dry. Havent had to lanolize yet. I sewed a pair of the wool stretchy bottoms that will fit her until she's 2. thinking of taken your advice on the muffin...hmm. lol
Offtopic but here is a cool weather soup I've been making like crazy that is semi healthy, super filling and way yummy --- plus done in 30 min! I don't do it exactly as she does it (gotta save some time and having done it both ways, each is equally delicious) but ingredients are the same..

Baby's Age This Month: 8 months old ~ six months adjusted preemie age
I can't believe I had her 8 months ago!
How are you feeling/adjusting?: I feel great adjusting to 3 was ok the older two are in school full time, but they have lots of activities old DD has piano 2x a week and gifted science 1x after school a week and DS has karate 1x a week and guitar 2x a week the science and karate will end soon and DD wants to do gymnastics or gym cheer and DS wants to do lacross or t-ball so we are busy, we moved back to our place in CT and all has been good we are glad to be back near our family. Life is hectic but good.
Anything different/new than what you were expecting?:(about baby, parenthood, anything)Not really
Any new tricks baby is trying out? Sång is crawling, and talking she can say hello, mama (when i pick her up) <3 and she can wave bye-bye and she can crawl! crazy no one told her she was a preemie~yet again LOL!
General Stuff? We had a bad hurricane here and lost power for 4 days but we spent the whole time at my moms who did not loose power at all, and we are putting in a generator LOL right now.
She is just so gorgeous, Sky. Love little Sang :D
Wow! Sang is doing so well! That is great to hear.
Regarding diaper rash we have been doing as much diaper free time as possible. It's a little chilly for that but DH has been loading up the wood stove. Last night I was down to my skivies it was so hot in here. The rash is almost all gone. My weekend project is to strip all the diapers once again so we can go back to cloth. Hopefully it works. DS seems to have very sensitive skin.
Mlog - I havent had any problems yet using liquid tide at 1/4 the regular strength. Clean diapers that don't smell overly fragrant but are also clean. She DID get a rash when I used ECO soap.
Finished my first PP AF. I think that was part of my mad cow disease problem regarding my calorie intake. good lord I was hungry. Lasted 4 days and was heavier than normal.
Dodiboo is laughing!! that makes me happy :)
Te
Teething baby has went from nursing to using my nipple as a chew toy and biting down as hard as she can. This causes some discomfort as you can imagine. Stupid question maybe, but should I just grin and bear it and hope its just a passing phase, or should I redirect her or what?
DD1 did this and i would bring her close into my br**st and she would release, i would act like nothing happened and after a few times she stopped. a few times with Sång i said ouch and she looked at me blankly but then smiled, so i did the pull close and she stopped.
from dr sears and LLL states this tactic as well...
Pull baby close. Instead of the yank-and-yell response, which you may intuitively feel like doing, as soon as you sense baby's teeth coming down to bite, draw her in close to your breast and she will automatically let go in order to open her mouth more and uncover her nose to breathe. Don't try to disengage your nipple from the clenched teeth. Your baby will lessen her bite as she realized that she can't both bite and breathe. After several times of this counter-instinctive trick of pulling your baby in close to you when she bites, your baby will realize that biting triggers this uncomfortable response and she will stop biting. Remember, your goal is to discourage her from biting, not to frighten her.

Sång is back in cloth!!!!
we finally got our laundry room redone/finished yay! The dryer comes next week but the new washer is in and it has a sanatize cycle and i can set it for soak wash extra rinse and sanatize as a program lol!
WOW i'm excited about a washer LOL!
It's really interesting for me to read this LLL/Dr Sears recommendation. One more, this happened to me last week too!!! And it happened right after Kai got his FIRST TOOTH. Anyone else know what those razor sharp baby teeth biting on your nipple feels like?! OMG ow ow ow.
I did not do the "pull close" method. I immediately pulled him off and said, quite sternly "NO." He looked at me, somewhat startled. And then I took a breath, and we tried again. He hasn't done it again since. It hurt so badly. I feel like telling him "No" actually worked.
I do have some PTSD from it though... I'm kind of afraid now each time he latches on. He can sense my hesitation and I feel bad. But it really hurt. I'm surprised I didn't have a cut. Seriously.

ouch Rozzie... :( Dodiboo hasn't got a tooth yet but I know shes teething. If this is a habit now, it will probably be when she gets a tooth if I don't stop it! Going to try the pull close method first. thanks!
Layla did it too. She doesn't have teeth yet, but I didn't want it to become a habit (like you said). I tried saying no, and she smiled. So I starting pulling her in towards me (like Sky said) and then put the boob away for a few minutes. It worked. She doesn't do it anymore. :)
Woohoo! I can't wait to get a house and to go appliance shopping. lol

:( Some kids respond to "no" so hopefully it worked.
