feel like I could have this baby any time

Thread Starter

this is my second pregnancy and I am experimenting new things. Monday I am turning 35 weeks but I feel like if I am not careful I will not make it 2-3 more weeks. Anybody else feeling like this baby will fall out any minute? I can't barely walk and I have braxton hicks one after another. The past 2 days have been the worst.

YES! YOu sound exactly like me

I am 35 weeks on Wednesday and this week, especially last 2 days, have been feeling like I need to watch out and be a bit more cautious or I may not make it 4 more weeks! I hav been having lots of BH and lots of menstral like cramping/feeling in my lower uterus and thighs and lower back. Loose stools--all of them, all the time--nausea, decreased appetite, the cat won't leave my side, started cleaning walls a few days ago {that's like SUPER nesty stuff!}. Been feeling lots of sharp/stabby pains i the cervix last few days, too. Baby is :LOT position and very low and so it wouldn't take much once I began birthing time to get him/her out, I think.

I was never one to 'worry' or even entertain PTL, but I am definitely getting the feeling that birthing time in near and that if I am not careful it could be too soon and I don't want too soon :/

Started spontaneous birthing with DD on my EDD and we know dates are correct with this kid. I didn't feel anything like this with DD!

My last baby was born at 36 weeks; I am currently 33 weeks.  I feel like I'll make it to 36 or 37 . . . I doubt I'll make it past there, but know that it's possible I'll go late and be the most frustrated 'overdue' mama ev-vah.  I am having more contractions that are sort of half-way between BH and 'damn, that was a real cervical twinge, I don't want to be having those yet.'   But I am also totally determined that this baby is being born BETWEEN THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS - and not at ALL ready logistically in terms of being finished at work or having things 'together' at home (see my post about ordering my birth kit last night!).  I am pretty sure my body can hold on another 3 - 4 weeks, barring unforeseen complications of some kind.  And I hope it does - I feel like I am just starting to mentally connect with the baby as a person who is going to arrive really soon, and with the fact that I'll be in labor and mothering a newborn really soon.

It is so funny to come on here and see this post because I was just thinking today..."I don't feel like I am anywhere near having this baby". Sweetmilk, you and I have the same due date (35 weeks on Monday) and I am just really feeling like I have a good 6 weeks to go!

mamabeakely--was there a specific reason that you birthed your last kiddo at 36 weeks? Dates off? known health conditions? I am definitely not ready to have a baby and do not want to have a baby before full term, which is a bit less than 4 weeks away.
Today I definitely got some serious cervical twinges that left me speechless and then quickly reminded me that labor hurts! haha ; )

Maybe, maybe not.  My dates are rock-solid.  I use fertility awareness and was trying to get pregnant all 4 times, and my babies have been born at 38+4, 39+4, and 36+ 4 weeks.  So partly, I think I just don't 'bake' them very long - they've all been 100% healthy and had no problems (nursing, etc) that seemed maturity related.  I've been healthy through all 4 pregnancies, too, although I did have a GBS UTI during my pregnancy with DD which was resolved, but potentially I suppose could have messed with things.  Also, I did fly cross-country once in my 35th week and once 2 days before DD was born.  Some people say the pressure changes could have triggered labor.  IDK.  I think I was already predisposed to an earlier labor than I'd had before, at the very least.  Finally, DD's placenta was pretty small.  It was healthy and normal, but only about the size of a medium-sized or salad type plate, rather than the size of a dinner plate, and other placentas I've seen have definitely been a lot bigger.  I don't think placentas grow a lot in diameter in the last month or so of pregnancy.  So maybe there was some nutritional reason why she needed to come out sooner rather than later - although she was a good size for a 36 week baby - 6 lbs 4 oz - not malnourished by weight anyway.  It's hard to say for sure one way or another.

Yes!! I've had this intuition that this little guy is not going to make it to his due date.  For one, there is a small chance that my dates could be off. I only say this because the only time he could have been conceived, we used condoms, but the month before that, we were not careful at all.  I'm wondering if that period I had between the two cycles could have been an early miscarriage? I have been measuring right on track up until about a month ago, so I'm thinking that might just be in my head. I've had so much pain this time around though, and that's making me think that my body might be ready sooner, too. I don't know though! With dd2, I had contractions that were doing work for the last six weeks of my pregnancy- and I went to 41w, 5ds with her. Both of my girls were so late that I'm really trying to think nothing of any signs I get. Tonight, I had a pretty intense round of BH contractions coming every 3 minutes for about an hour. They came out of nowhere, and ended abruptly. Also, the last few nights, I wake up with almost a charlie horse feeling in my stomach, like my abdominals have had a muscle cramp. It's super painful, not like contractions, and I don't know what's causing them! I'll talk to my mw tomorrow if they happen again tonight.

Mamabeakely--thanks for sharing! It is very reassuring to know that even at 36 weeks baby can be healthy as can be ; ) I have recently had a few friends have premature and/or really tiny babies all needing short stays in the NICU {2 were twins born spontaneously at 35 weeks and another was IUGR full term 41 week old baby weighing 4lbs 7oz}--so, all of them were healthy, too, but still stayed in the NICU for over a week which seems really strange if they were healthy. I feel like I wouldn't be OK with that. Also, how did you know it was a GBS related UTI? I had some symptoms of UTI and then had 2 cultures come back with slight bacteria--less than MW would even treat for, but it can back 2x that way...so...I feel like maybe I have had a UTI. I need to take some chines herbs and make sure to get rid of it if I do...I'll start in the morning.

Natalie--I have had the same charlie horse cramping of my abdominals during the night and through the day, too. is it low like just above the crease of where your leg meets your belly? I think it is round ligaments spasming, but it definitely isn't uterine contractions and it definitely hurts! I try to move very slowly in the night to give my body time to warm up before asking it to stretch and 'work' --I think it is just my body being completely stretched out and near its limits {THANK YOU STRONG BODY FOR SUPPORTING THIS BABY AND ME SO WELL!!} When I read PTL stuff and it was saying to call the MW if i had more than 4 BH in an hour I was a bit worried because I have had many more than that and it has happened a handful of times a day over the last few days. LMK what your MW says--I don't see mine until next monday--week 36.

That seems to be a bit over cautious I would think. Four in an hour!? I get as many as 8-10 an hour for several hours at a time for weeks at a time with all my pregnancies....

No PTL here.

I thought the same Tropicana ;)

Yes! I have very frequent contractions, definitely 4/hr, and often more like 15-20 (and then I sit down and rest, and they slow down). I'm not in PTL, although I am 80% effaced and fingertip dilated. I am at risk for PTL (bicornuate uterus lady), and am keeping a very close eye on things and resting a lot, taking it easy.

But I still think I will make it a few more weeks. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow, and my previous babes have been born at 32 and 36 weeks. The 32 weeker was in the NICU for 4 weeks for apnea and breathing problems, and 36 weeker never left our sides and came home with us right away.

For what it's worth, I've had two episodes in the last two weeks where I really thought I was starting labor (with nausea, diarrhea, cramping), and both times it turned out that I wasn't in labor.

I knew the UTI was caused by GBS because the culture showed GBS as the bacteria present in the urine.  I had a clean culture after treating with herbs AND antibiotics, though, and that was about 21 weeks, and there were no signs of infection at the time of birth.

I was worried yesterday because I was so cranky - and that's been a sign of impending labor for me 2 out of 3 times - but I think maybe I was getting a migraine rather than going into labor.  No labor today!  (DH says I've been cranky for 8 months so far, but it *felt* different to me ;-)

I've been concerned about this, too. It's always felt like baby would come a bit early. But with the weird scare I am having right now (see the weekly thread for details), I'm even more worried. I figured out who is handling my MW's clients while she is gone, so I am going to call her in a moment. I'm not worried about being ready for baby so much as preemie concerns, and (I know this is silly, but it's true) I haven't had my maternity photos done :/. My DSS was born at 32 weeks, was in the NICU for 8 weeks. I'm 33.5 now. I think maybe I'm just freaking myself out (very unlike me in pregnancy related stuff, but seems to be happening a lot this time around), but honestly, do NOT feel right :/

well I have been more careful the past few days. Made sure to drink enought water and to rest plenty and it really make a difference!!!! DH is taking more care of our toddler. Brings him outside for at least 2 hours a day. Wow i like that. With this new routine I think i will get this bean to at least 38 weeks if not my due date.

This thread is pretty scary to read so I got on the ball this weekend and have been doing some of those last things I need to get done.  I have one more week of work coming up and it is going to be a hard week because my coworker won't be there to help me.  I just want to get through this week as easily as I can without stressing my body out and causing anything to happen too soon.

Dana- I'm having round ligament pain as well as everything else, so the abdominal cramping is a little bit different. It's like my belly is completely sore, top to bottom. I'm wondering if I'm having bh contractions while I'm sleeping and maybe they are wearing my muscles out?  I didn't have these last night so I'm waiting a few days to talk to my mw about them until Friday at my prenatal. I'm betting some of her arvigo massage will help out, too :)

yes, this sounds exactly like what I am dealing with. I do believe that it is related to round ligaments because the origin and insertion points {Which are vague since these are ligaments not muscles} are right at the belly button level on either side and then at the tops of the labia majora lips or on top of the mons pubis--if I palpate those points it is excrusiatingly painful and then everything in between those points, which is my whole lower abdomen feels like a giant bruise. I couldn't imagine having arvigo massage on the area--I had some light massage done on thursday and it just made me more tender afterwards. I think it really is just that the ligaments are THAT stretched/stressed out from carrying this kid so far out. I ordered a support band/groin support/compression garment that will be here tuesday--It is just so painful at this point that I know I need some compression to deal with it.

I also found that if I keep my legs less drawn up that I am less likely to get the cramping because the slack is taken out of the area so it isn't such a stretch once I have to get up from laying down--which for me was counterintuitive, but has worked the last  nights for both leg and abdomen cramping. LMK what you find out ; ) I don't see my MW for another week.

I have definitely been having sharp, shooting pains LOW and in my cervix--painful twinges the last  days now. I don't know if babe is dropping or what, but many times daily now where I yelp out from sharp pain, the contrax have slowed down though. I feel like maybe babe is heading downward more...but I dunno since I didn't drop with DD and this one is already pretty low.

Having intuitions that this labor may actually start from SROM, but I hope I am wrong {unless I go from SROM to birthing in hours--I would be OK with that}.

I have had a feeling this babe would be early, too, but then again, I thought that with DS2--thought he'd be 2w early--and he was born all of 2 DAYS early, lol. But I didn't have the kind of cervical pain I'm having now as early with him, either. Like just now, I had a (normal for me) bm, but when I got up from the toilet, I couldn't stand up straight for the pain at my freakin cervix. Gonna hafta ask my mw about that tomorrow at my 34w appt. I've already told her 2 weeks ago that I've had a lot more cervical involvement with this pregnancy than with either of my boys'. I'll share if I get any good info.

YES! I am determined to get everything done and have my baby after 37 weeks so I don't risk out of a homebirth... but dang, those BH come alllll the time.  I wrote a blog post about it even. ;) http://www.motherrisingbirth.com/2012/11/34-weeks-braxton-hicks-contractions.html

I started watching Walking Dead on Netflix... Gives me so much anxiety!  I say, try that to counteract all that good oxytocin you ladies are experiencing. ;)
