Hey,

I just gave my 3 month old exclus. bf. baby boy some gerber baby bananas he seemed like he enjoyed them,,,today was the secod time he ate them. I dudnt give too much because i know he wont tolerate it. now there are a few red spots in his diaper. his colors always range from bright yellow to green and most of the time kinda mucous-y. should i be alarmed?

3months is awfully young to be having solid food. Was there a particular reason you have it to him? I don't think you need to be too alarmed by his nappy but I would also suggest that you do not give him any more food or water. At this age all he needs is breastmilk.

I would suggest offering solids again once he reaches 6 months and shows signs of readiness for solid food :-)

ETA - if his poos don't go back to normal in a day or so or there is more than a couple of drops of blood then I would get it checked but I think it is most likely just the reaction of an immature gut to solid food.

I completely agree.  3 months old is way too young to be eating solid food.  All he needs until past 6 months is breastmilk.

Agree with the above comments! 3 months is really young. The gut isn't ready for anything but breastmilk and bananas are pretty bidning for a lot of babies, too. I would wait until closer to 6 months before giving anything else. And may I suggest looking into baby led weaning/solids? If baby can feed his/herself, you'll know they're ready.

Sounds like the bananas caused constipation which led to straining, hence the blood in his diaper. I agree with the others-no solids until at least 6 months. At this age, his gut can't handle it (obviously) and he could aspirate. No need for anything besides breastmilk right now.
