Postpartum mamas - How are you doing? - Page 3

kparker- my nipples are killing me too! I had his latch looked at and it's perfect. He's getting tons of milk, I'm just suffering for it. I know exactly how you feel, I just cry when he latches on. Have you found that the nipple shields help? I really don't want to feel that way about my DS either.

How is everyone doing now? I'm just getting to this thread 2.5 weeks pp!

Pretty much done bleeding though my bottom and perineum feel bulgy and tender occasionally. Going to take some time to recover from the tearing I guess! midwife said the bulgy feeling means I need to do more kegals and get the area strengthened once again.

Nursing is going very well, thankfully. I was shocked and then worried when E wouldn't nurse after a couple days of not nursing in the NICU. However we worked through it one feeding at a time and now he is latching wonderfully! Very grateful. DS1 wants to nurse more and I'm having to balance that but it's going okay. Pretty nice to have him around when my breasts get too full and E isn't hungry!

I think the hardest think pp this time has been helping a toddler adjust to less of mama. Boy, that part is TOUGH. He's yelling, hitting, and throwing tantrums more, it's sad and a challenge to deal with. Oh well :( Only time and loving can help that!

I woke up this morning to a raging case of mastitis :-(  I've never had this before, but let me say that I can't remember the last time I was this sick.  I'm so bummed to have to take abx, but the herbal stuff hasn't been helping.  DD has been sleepy the last couple days and not nursing as well.  I hope this heals soon.

Kateaton- Sure hope you recover quickly. I've not had mastitis before but hear that it can be brutal. Sometimes you just gotta take those antibiotics, glad we have them for when we really need them! Do you have any probiotics you can also take to help rebuild that good bacteria? Feel better soon!

Sere234-my ds has been getting physically rough, too. It seems like the first 3 weeks were toughest and the past few weeks, he has chilled out a bit. Not so frantically attention-seeking. Hope yours mellows out soon. You're right though, time and lots of love are in order.

Kateaton-I had mastitis with ds at 4 weeks. I didn't realize what it was until it was over because my breasts were still so achy from engorgement. It lasted about 36 hours and cleared up on its own, but it was a really rough 36 hours. I'm not saying don't take abx if you need them. Just saying mine did run its course. If I had known what was going on while it was actually happening, I would have called the bc and gotten a script. Oh the chills and body aches on top of baby care and nursing ! greensad.gif Hope you feel better soon.
