Long story short- I was in the ER twice on Saturday for incredibly painful spasms and cramps in my left side. In the end, it was attributed to my IBS. I am fairly certain it's Spenic Flexure Disorder, which is when food or gas gets trapped in the Splenic Flexure (the 90 degree angle in the colon where the colon goes from straight across to down).

It's been hell. Today things have improved enough that I can function and be "mom" again. The pain in my side is still there, but nearly as bad. Whenever I eat or drink, I get crampy. The xrays showed that have stool in my upper intestines, so I did an enema last night was able to go a little, which helped a lot.

I need to try to get myself to empty out totally so I can start trying to heal the intestines and avoid this happening again. I'm drinking Miralax and will be starting some kind of fiber drink. But I need to go NOW. If another enema doesn't do it, I was thinking of doing a salt water flush.

This is what I am wondering: do you think it's safe to do a salt water flush? Basically, you put 2 tsp of sea salt in one quart of warm water, and drink it. It makes you go fairly quickly. From what I understand, it doesn't go into your bloodstream since none of it has time to absorb. I've done it in the past when I did the Master Cleanse. I *think* it would be okay to do... what you think?

DH has been a pharmacist for over a decade and he said he doesn't think the salt flush will do anything. He believes it will all absorb. He said to keep up your water intake, continue with the miralax and do a lot of walking if you can. He said if you do decide to do it that you need to keep drinking a lot of water afterwards but it shouldn't do any harm to the baby.

Also, I have had IBS for years and I'm just learning it's had something to do with my Hashimoto's diagnosis which also aligns with Celiac. Are you gluten free at all? That might help in a big way with your IBS. Also, take probiotics! They have helped me a lot.

Wow! Thanks for asking him! Okay. Maybe I will give the Miralax more time. This is day 3 on it. I'll try another enema too.

Blah. This really sucks.

No problem. I hope you are able to get it out. I had horrendous constipation early on this pregnancy and it was torture for those few days.

You could do vitamin c to tolerance...unless you are overly concerned about contractions which you must not be if you are considering doing a salt flush anyway.

Anyway, that's what "I" would do....I'd probably take a TABLESPOON of ascorbic acid with water and repeat in about 40 minutes if nothing.  I usually start out with TBS of AA if I'm really sick or really feel something coming on.
