Is this your first baby?

If this is your first baby, ask questions here and those of us who have done this before will be happy to answer them if we can :)

Congratulations on your first baby! What an amazing ride you are about to embark upon!

This is my first!  I'm sure I'll have more questions soon. My husband goes out of the country tomorrow for a month and our lives are consumed by that right now.  I've been so excited that all I've been thinking about so far is the fact that I'm having a baby!

Do you have people around you who can support you while he's gone? Is he travelling for work? Congratulations, Mama!

I do have a good support group here!  My best friend (basically my sister) has 5 boys and lots of pregnancy experience and a I have a group of friends that know.  My Mom is actually in Florida (we're in Minnesota) until mid-Dec so she's gone too.  But I should be ok!  He is from Tunisia - so he's going to visit family for a month.  He planned the trip before we knew I was pregnant but it's actually pretty good timing because I don't want him traveling when I'm further along!

And thank you!!

This is my first! Is it normal to not have symptoms? I'm not complaining but it's doesn't feel real! I know soon enough baby bump will make its entrance.... Oh how fun smile.gif
post #6 of 52
With pregnancy, there is no normal! wink1.gif. It's still pretty early! I think a lot of people start to see symptoms show up between 7 and 8 weeks. smile.gif
post #7 of 52
I agree...With pregnancy, there is no normal. Each person is different and then each pregnancy is different. This is my 6th pregnancy, so far not anything like any of my others. Every one has been different. I still feel like a first time mom when I experience something new. Mostly, I just try to roll with things and not worry unless I'm having more than just crampy/achy pain. Congratulations on your first baby!

Hi There!

This is my first baby :) I am 5 weeks along today!

I have been having some really weird, period like cramping. Is that 'normal'. I am super worried! And I am so excited! I am just a mess right now!

Some cramping is fairly normal. If it's real painful or is accompanied by blood, it would probably be a good idea to contact your care provider. Congratulations!

This is my first--I'm about 6 1/2 weeks today. My husband and I are very excited! I also haven't had any symptoms yet, except being hungry and tired.

So exciting, all you first time mamas!!!  Congrats!!

Congratulations to you first time mommas! So exciting. :)

This is my sixth pregnancy, but my first as a surrogate and my first time carrying twins!!!

I hope this will be my first baby. I love the idea of the support here, between new moms and experienced moms. I will be back with my questions. Right now i am trying to remain calm and not obsess about my possibly high hcg #s and going to my dating ultrasound even though i dont want to. I am just overwhelmed. I like this little " corner" of new moms.

MonkeyPrincess, can i ask when you found out about the twins? Did you have hcg #s? I know it can vary so much, just thinking.

Obsessing is not unique to first time moms! LOL This is my 6th pregnancy/baby and I'm still obsessing! Especially, since I suspect twins, but the soonest u/s I could get isn't until the 27th. I can't stand waiting! I just want to know!

I can agree with that statement. Early pregnancy is a bit obsessive no matter first or fifth, etc. This is my 7th pregnancy/baby and I am glad to see some moms of many here too - Physically, it is a different experience I think after you have had 5+ babies in some ways - but in other ways I enjoy reading through the eyes of a first time mother also, etc. if that makes sense, on other issues.

hahah, yes, still obsessing over here during my 5th pregnancy! That never goes away! :)

I am obsessing as well... My mind goes something like this "Baby, Baby, Baby, Food, Baby, Baby, Sick, Baby Baby Baby Baby Food, Tired, Baby Baby Baby Baby" ROTFLMAO.gif

Hi everyone, i love knowing you all obsessing with me. I can't figure out how to use these discussion threads because they are all over the place so i am going to just come back to the ones that fit my topics. I normally feel so shy to ask things but this time i was invited to so now i am constantly thinking of what to ask, another form of obsession possibly. I have been reading about how some people are more relaxed about stuff when its not their first baby, knowing kindof what  to expect. I find myself constantly looking around trying to imagine where my baby would fit in , and feeling like my apt is clutter and chaos. When do i start to buy stuff, what can i get from friends as pass me downs or buy from them , just thinking to myself about EVERYTHING i need to do that i dont know how. At the same time, i think of my many losses but i dont want that to get in my way. I want as much as possible to be done so i can relax without worrying about how to figure out how its all going to work. I want to get bigger and have less to do, meaning for things to start getting done. Should we make a priority list together? Help! As long as i start with something, i will feel better. Today i wanted to order some reusable pantliners, i found lunapads, anyone use these? I am trying to guess which size to get, b/c some people say they shift around. And i wonder how much discharge will increase. Ok, i think i have said enough for now, i am afraid i will overwhelm you all but maybe you will show me its simpler than i think. I think its hard for me to imagine how much i will need to spend so i feel like i am just so confused. And finding used stuff vs new stuff, what if something doesnt work...and then my apt isnt very cozy feeling with piles of random stuff i need to deal with. It just sucks my energy. I have been trying to figure out what to do about furniture/sitting areas for a.while and now i just want it done. I cant tolerate polyester so its like i try to imagine building cushions on frames or mix&matching . Is anyone petite like me? Where do you sit with the baby to nurse? I am looking into latex replacement cushions for a used old frame. But i went to see a couple and the smell in other peoples houses bothered me or the springs didnt feel right..i try to look up as much about it as i can, i just worry now that it needs to get done sooner, and maybe there isnt a cheap option or maybe i just havent found it yet. I looked into zabutons, double layered cushions which are supossed to put you body at a healthy angle with.open hips, then i was thinking pillows behind the back against the wall.. Just want to run some of my ideas by everyone ..i am not great with decisions, i need to get better.

Here we are- my advice to you in regards to baby stuff is to stick with the "less is more" mentality. With my first, we bought all the baby gear. With my 2nd and 3rd, we got rid of
Most of it. Diapers, a car seat, a good baby carrier and some clothes are all you REALLY need. The other things should be played by ear. None of my babes liked swings, bouncy seats etc so those were useless. We co-slept so we didn't need the crib we bought. I found it easier to change diapers on the floor, couch, bed, so we got rid of our change table. Others love all these things. You won't know until baby is here. Try not to stress! You've got loads of time!

As for panty liners. I use happy heinies... But have never needed them during pregnancy. Just after! smile.gif.

I'm nt super petite. 5'3. I just nurse wherever I happen to be. I sometimes used a nursing pillow but found it easier without!

Hi Kalista, its a relief to hear you sound at ease. I know relaxing probably is the answer to figuring this out smile.gif. Its i need to see it, where i will sit and just be with little baby, no clutter in my way! I checked out the decluttering thread and it seems this is a very important key to a smooth running home. If i could only get there. Because right now, i only really sit and really relax on my bed. I have no comfortable place in my living /kitchen space. Its been an issue for a while. Most people have a couch or something normal. Is this mostly where you sit? Just curious. Maybe i just need to keep plugging away at finding a couch frame to buy cushions for...? I am almost 5 "2 . Do you find it comfy with a pillow behind your back ? Most couchss seem big to me, my short legs, but i think its much better than a futon? Or i see some people have a nursing rocking chair? Is it very important to rock? I can only imagine being very tired and wanting to be super comfy unlike my hard chairs which strain my back now. I dont know why i am so uncomfortable, it just feels like nothing fits and i stiffen up. I hope i am not complaining, i just want to figure it out. I will.want diaper recommendations and carriers and all that too from everyone, i am just a mess with decisions. And clothes, is it a simpler time of year , yes? Cheaper than warmer clothes, at least to start. Where do you all get clothes? Shoes? Online? Secondhand stores? How much is all that, a couple hundred or more every year? I am hoping to find a clothes buddy with someone a year older or so, because i just feel like i dont know where to start. And i want my child to have all natural, breathable materials. Relax time. I bet i am sounding like a super worrier, i just feel like its something i have never done before, and i really have no one to help so i feel like i need to have it all mapped out. Maybe i am making it complicated. I just cant believe its really happening!and i want to be ready. Relax....
