Can i use a Portable Crib in place of a regular crib?

I am stocking up on supplies I will need when i become pregnant with my first baby (month 2 of trying for a baby), and I want to be as cost effective as I can be.

I was wondering if I can use a portable crib (like the Pack n Play type) in place of a regular crib?  I have a 2 bedroom apartment and need to buy a portable crib to take with me places, but was wondering if if could double as a regular crib to save money and space.

I don't know if I could use a co-sleeper crib, due to the fact that I have an adjustable bed (Craftmatic adjustable bed), and I can't find any info on their use with this type of bed.

I use a pack n play for my permanent crib. Haven't had a problem with it. It's not adjustable and so depending on how tall you are might be inconvenient. We like BC we move out into a camper each summer and travel.

The only thing about the pack n play is that it doesn't have a solid mattress and starts to become less comfortable as baby gets heavier. By about 18 lbs when DD started moving around, the bottom pad would shift and she wasn't very comfy in it. We used to use it for naps but had to transition to a regular crib around 7 months or so. I got it for the same reason: to take along for baby and REALLY didn't get much use out of it. Honestly my reccomendation is to either get a convertible crib or just a twin mattress on the floor in baby's room to cosleep. You could snap up a used pnp for way less $$ and keep it folded until you travel. It might work out differently for you but I just wanted to share my experience and disappointment at how little use I got out of it

We used a pack n play as a regular bed for 2 years and it was fine, but I recommend getting the MamaDoo Kids mattress topper for extra comfort and support. The "mattress" in the pack n play is too hard... The mattress topper has the perfect firmness and folds in 3 (perfect for travel, visiting family, etc). Good luck!
