More Babies = Faster Labor?

For those of you with 3+ kids... does the labor really go faster each time?

Is it easier? My first was a heavily managed, 'low-intervention' hospital birth. My second was supposed to be a UC, but my husband was unable to offer me the support I needed and so we ended up at the hospital 40 minutes before DD was born with a hospital 'midwife'.

This time I want to stay way, way out of the hospital. DS was about 6 hours 'start' to finish, but my cervix was massaged and my water was broken by my (male of course) doctor.

DD was about 10-11 hours start to finish, no pain meds, delivered on all fours. I touched her head while she was crowning :D

The 'midwife' at the hospital was so mad at me for not coming in sooner with DD... beeotch :p What was REALLY funny was a few months later I ran into the midwife's parents at a local store and they asked me who had delivered my baby. I said 'me!' They asked who the attendant was and I told them it was 'C' and when they said that was their daughter I just walked away. I couldn't say anything nice, so I didn't say anything at all.

I've been reading birthstorys today ;)

First was 73 hours or so. I went into labor at noon on a Saturday and delivered at 1:45 pm on Tuesday. I was very out of shape and very overweight. Thought I was eating for 2 or something? That and I wasn't staying in positions that would help move things along - lots of laying around. Would probably have been smart to be standing and walking more.

With my second was 11 hours or so, can't remember for sure - I think it started around 8am and then ended at 6:45 pm.

With my third and UC, I went into "false" labor for 4-6 hours or something. It felt real to me. I had never had that with no baby at the end, but it stalled out and I ended up resting. Then slept that night and went on through the next day with nothing happening. I went to bed that night and woke up around 3 or 4 am with regular contractions that were too painful to sleep through. I called my best friend around 6 am and we chatted for a while. She lives far away. Then much to my surprise, I gave birth by 9:15 am. So, I guess maybe 6 hours of labor before baby came out, but if you count the other day as well it'd be like 10-12 hrs? It went great anyway.

I expect this time it will be between 6 and 12 hrs, but maybe it'll be even faster. That would be great.

All 3 of mine were 4 hours. Pushed for 19, 12 and 17 minutes. The last 2 were at he with a midwife. The last was very strange in that contractions never got closer than 10 minutes apart.

I told my husband I'm aiming for 2 hours or less this time! wink1.gif

With # 1, I felt prelabour pains first thing in the morning, was about to determine they were becoming mild, irregular contractions by the afternoon, started to become painful into the afternoon, barely slept all night, went to hospital early in the morning (was disapointed to find I was only 4cms) and laboured there until noon. (in hospital for 6 hours prior to pushing) Pushed for almost 2 hours. (1 hour and 51 mins to be exact)

With #2, felt crampy and uncomfortable for weeks before labour actually started. It came on fast, started as serious back pain around 5, contractions were 3-4mins appart and regular by 7 so we drove into hospital by 8. Found out baby was posterior (I had suspected because of anterior placenta). Laboured until 11:30 (in hospital exactly 3.5hrs prior to pushing), pushed for  6 MINUTES and baby was born sunny side up at 11:36 I still cannot believe he was born so fast, especially because my first baby took almost 2 hours!

I'll have to wait till I can get on the computer to respond to this. Can't do that yet, cause the computer is in the dining room and we haven't told the kids yet. For now, gotta stick with my phone.

My first was induced for suspected IUGR, one hour and fourty minutes of contractions, three pushes.

My second was augmented, baby within five hours of SROM, pushed for 10 mins. (epidural)

Third was induced, less than about 8 hours of labor. Pushed about 15 mins. (epidural)

Fourth, I went into labor all on my own! And had a surprise unassisted. Three hours of contractions, no pushing - he flew out!

Fifth, my midwife asked to check me and "played" with my cervix, which put me into labor - baby three hours later. Also, unassisted. Again, no pushing. (She fell on the floor! In the caul!)

I'm very curious to see how this labor plays out - two babies, and two completely different sets of genetics!
