ok, first off, let me say I feel like a horrible mother right now. My 5 year old son has high-functioning autism. We had him on a gfcfsf diet for about 10 months and it was AMAZING how much it helped him. Repetitive behaviors almost gone, obsessions a minimum and he was very clear thinking and was speaking so much better.
A few weeks ago we got we were having some real difficulties financially. I feel horrible about this but I could not afford to keep him on his diet. So we prayed and hoped for the best and gave him what we could afford; which included gluten, casein, and soy. Sure enough his symptoms returned dramatically. That was a few weeks ago, he has been back on the diet for 3 weeks now and while there has been a small change for the better. He is still not back to where he was. I know it has only been 3 weeks but I am afraid that we caused permanent damage and he will never go back to how he was. Am I paranoid, or is it possible I am not going to get him back? I could just kick myself for doing this, but the kid had to eat! thoughts? experience?
