How to clean reusable wipes

Thread Starter

Hello,

I was wondering how people cleaned reusable wipes if they don't do cloth diapers. We have a diaper service for the cloth diapers and I am trying to figure out how to deal with the issue of cleaning the wipes. We have a bidet sprayer in our house, but use a laundermat for the resto f our stuff.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!!

I just threw them in with baby's laundry load. In the beginning we had a lot of poop blowouts so there was a lot of baby laundry even though we used sposies. Once she got older, her poop was about once a week so most wipes were just pee and I threw them in with whatever I was washing. I used a gentle detergent so that any residue wasn't too likely to bother DD's skin.

If you don't go to the laundromat often enough, I'd probably just quickly hand wash them and hang to dry. It could be a quick part of the evening routine and they would be ready to go in the morning. Hth

Total tangent in reply to sky:  Once a week?  Whoa!  Is that typical?  Both of mine had at least 1-2 movements a day (not runny or loose).  That's awesome.

Is it possible to talk to your diapering service to see if they can throw your wipes in the wash as well?

Well after the newborn stage sometime, when she was EBF so probably from 3 to about 6 months her pooping slowed waaaay down. She peed a lot but it was not unheard of for her to go 10 days without a poop. When she pooped, it was really big but loose and seedy like before. I asked my dr and LC about it and they both said its not unusual and not a problem unless baby is uncomfortable and really straining to try to poop. They explained that breastmilk is so closely matched to baby's needs that there just isn't a lot of waste and some babies utilize near 100% of it. Once solids entered the picture that all changed of course lol. Oh and formula fed babies don't skimp on the poop either lol. While it was great to not deal with poop every day, I always started getting a bit nervous of leaving the house once day 8 or 9 rolled around. I was using sposies at the time and a poop basically necessitated an improvised bath most times eyesroll.gif . Once poop even made it into her hair! Lol

Yowza.  Yeah, my DD was EBF as well and she never missed a day... Guess we just lucked out.  ;)  I don't think we had any in the hair ever, though, lol.

We used a service for the first several months.

For wipes, we would throw them in a bucket with a lid.

On laundry day, or the evening before, I would put water and some borax in the bucket and t[let them soak for a bit.

Then I would swish the wipes around to clean them a bit. And then I would dump out the water, squeeze the wipes out and throw them in the wash.

I wash them by themselves, not with other clothing.

I'd throw them in with your towels!
