Will You Find Out Your Baby's Sex? - Page 2

I have four boys. So yes, I'm planning to find out. :) It's fun not to and I'm already pretty sure it's another boy but I want to know.

Congrats sky_and_lavender! That's awesome. What a cool story!

We are about 80% sure that we're having a girl based on our ultrasound today. I'm in awe of your intuition sky_and_lavendar! My husband had more intuition about it than I did! (He refused to discuss anything but girl names.)

I plan to find out the sex, but I don't plan on sharing that with friends/ family because I prefer 'gender neutral' things for baby and despite them knowing this, I'm afraid that I will receive well intentioned pink/ blue baby gifts for shower, etc.  I plan to decorate baby's room with grays/ greens/ white (gender neutral) regardless of baby's sex.  I think that knowing the sex will help with narrowing down names!

Can anyone explain what the materniT21 test is?  I'm not familiar with this?

It's a new blood test. The test can be done on woman who are 10 weeks along or more. It is primarily a very accurate screening test for the three most common trisomies (a cause of birth defects), including Down syndrome. It is only available to women who are particularly at risk of having a child with these birth defects (such as family history or maternal age 35 or above). The results also include sex determination.  The way the test works is basically that the lab separates the woman's DNA from her baby's, then cultures the DNA over the course of several days to determine whether there are extra chromosomes, and whether there are Y chromosomes. I think most doctors either don't know about it or would rather do the more standard tests for various reasons.

I'm going in tomorrow for my first visit with our parallel care OB office and I think we're going to do the MaterniT21, because I had a miscarriage in March due to confirmed tripoidy (three full copies of genetic material instead of two). I'm also 35 and I'm hoping our insurance will pay for it in full, since we've met the deductible after all the hospital bills from the m/c.

We didn't have an US w/ our first 2 & had an emergency US w/ our second & asked to know but it was inconclusive being a couple of weeks off so she was a surprise too. I'm making a bet that this one is a boy. After my first son I sprouted a beard hair on my chin that requires a monthly plucking & it's growing a neighbor so I'm assuming I'm carrying a little ball of testosterone. Daddy will be pleased but groaned when I told him my method of deduction, lol.

OMG, I am so glad that I'm not the only one who has admitted this!!!! My initial intuition was that this is a girl, but I've been swayed lately into thinking boy.  I also have been growing a lot of extra hair.

LavendarSky, that is such a cool story! I really do think that kids have a good intuition for these types of things.  In my DDC when I was pregnant with my son, someone said that you can make a pretty accurate guess at the sex of your baby by watching how other kids respond to you.  A baby of the opposite gender to the child will result in a child who is playful and affectionate, while a baby of the same gender of the child will make the child stand off-ish.  At my son's gymnastics class, all of the little boys have been very friendly (hey, look at me, watch this!) while the little girls have avoided me like the plague, lol!

We are planning to find out at our scan, and I just can't wait! I think it's really cool that some people wait...I just am not someone who can do it, lol! I found that with my son, it really did help with the bonding process.

We haven't decided yet. Last time we waited until birth, but this time, I'm not sure what we will decide.

I get chin hair all the time, extra with my DD, so who knows ;-)

Initially I wanted to find out but now I am wondering if I want to wait. I am thinking if we do find out that we will possibly not tell people? I have my u/s scheduled in January.

I posted the photo in another thread, but I took the Intelligender urine test this morning and it was off the charts "boy". We'll find out if that is accurate at the gender ultrasound on Jan 28 smile.gif

That's the same date as our anatomy ultrasound!  Ours is early in the morning - 8:30a.  I'll be thinking of you to see if you indeed have a boy!

It will be interesting to start a poll in this due date club as we begin to learn/reveal gender to see what the spread is for girl vs. boy.

I feel like in past DDC's there seems to be more of one or the other at the beginning of the month, and then the opposite sex has more hits at the end of the month....I have no idea if that's the case or not, but it always seems like one sex is "favored" at first.  We will definitely have to make a poll of some kind :)

I have an us on Jan. 4. I can't wait to find out. It will help me with names and decluttering old baby clothes. My son talks to my belly and the baby told him its a boy. I kinda am hoping for a boy.

Amlikam - (Sorry, phone doesn't quote.) I don't think you have to tell anyone if you don't want to. But it might be less stressful to keep the secret if you claim not to know yourself. Sure, slightly dishonest but sometimes people are just too nosey.

I don't have my ultrasound set up yet. I need to set up my next prenatal and then should get to set up the ultrasound at that appointment....

With Jack, I was 100% sure he was a boy. No doubt in my mind. This one I'm thinking girl, but I'm less concrete than last time. My hubby and all our family thinks girl. My son (3) believes the baby to be a sister, but he also is sure it will be an 'older sister', so perhaps his judgement is suspect ;)

We'll hopefully find out at the anatomy scan which will be happening in the next 2-3 weeks sometime. If baby is elusive, I don't know that we would pay for a private scan just to find out...

LaurenIslay, I pretty much have the exact same story, except switch the genders. And my dd doesn't think the baby will be her older sibling, lol. That's awfully cute.

But yes, everyone is guessing boy. I think I feel boy, but not as strongly as I was certain that Ela was a girl. I dont have an ultrasound scheduled yet, but it should be around the end of January. I can't wait to find out, I just hope the baby cooperates. Ela refused to give up the goods during my 20 week scan with her.

I was 100% sure my DD was a boy. And I am 100% sure this one is a boy.... guess we will see Jan 21.

kitteh, I laugh when I hear people say "the baby wouldn't let us see the sex" bc my DD wouldn't let us see anything else!!!!!
