Well, I continued leaking fluid all day Sunday and got to the hospital at 8:30 pm. Our baby boy arrived just under 24 hours later, at 8:14 pm last night, 11/12. He was 7 lb 14 oz and 20" long and has tons of dark wavy hair. We think he is the cutest thing ever! Labor was long and awful, and just about everything i didn't want to happen happened and K was very distressed at birth. He has a pneumothorax and is being treated in the nursery so i can only hold him every so often since it hurts my perineum to be sitting in the wheelchair in the nursery for too long. He is improving a lot, but he will need to stay for at least 2 more days. He should be fine in the long run and i am trying to remember that that's the most important thing, but it is hard because i feel like i am missing out on the early bonding time. We are so in love with him and can't believe he is truly ours!

Here's a photo of our little guy, in my sister's arms while he was still in the IMN. As you can see, he has TONS of hair and big chubby cheeks. smile.gif

Thank you all! Turns out he also has a broken clavicle. My poor little guy. Doing much better every day- still at the hospital, but he was out of the ICN and rooming with us as of last night. Breastfeeding was rough at first but we just had 2 really good feeds so fingers crossed! I am being discharged to tonight but we will stay as boarders. K should be able to go home tomorrow. Can't wait, though the hospital staff is absolutely amazing and we have received such wonderful support here.

Baxter has a broken collar bone as well - we didn't find out until his 2 days check up with our ped after we were home.  I've been trying to swaddle him with his arm against his chest, although the Ped suggested pinning his shirt arms to his chest.  He doesn't seem in pain at all, I'm just trying not to pick him up under the arms or move his arm very much.  It was easier when he was 2 days old.  He's 2 weeks now and will fight his way out of a swaddle.  I've read in more than one place that babies his age won't do anything that causes themselves pain, so obviously his arm can't be hurting too much if he's pushing his way out of being snuggled up with his arm.  Hope you are both able to leave tomorrow and he's feeling better soon!

babychak - I'm glad he's nursing well! I hope he gets to come home soon.

Finnigans - Glad he's healed.

Is that a common thing for them to be born with? I've never heard of that.

Yeah we've been taping/ pinning his arm to his chest. We'll see what the ped thinks at his follow up appt tomorrow. It doesnt seem to bother him much.

Oceanseve i am told i had shoulder dystocia (i was totally unaware of it myself) when he came out so i believe it is fairly common in those cases. They didnt catch the break until his 3rd xray for his pneumothorax. If he hadnt had the pneumo they orobably wouldnt have caught it so i bet its more common than we think

We are finally going home today!!!!
