My boy friend and I just found out we are pregnant today. Happy New Moon! It would appear we conceived two weeks ago (Full Moon/Halloweenish), as I am only now just late with a positive early pregnancy test. We have some time to sort things out but there is an obvious deadline :-) His job does not offer insurance and I am currently in between jobs, though I am taking interviews next week. We both meet with the Health Department here in Boulder county tomorrow afternoon. I really want to have a home birth and home prenatal care and we are willing to pay out of pocket for it if medicaid/medicare or what ever CO provides doesn't cover homebirth. I have heard that something called Chp+ is available for people that make too much money for such medicare/caid services, and that it does cover some homebirth midwives.
So I guess what I would like to know is what any of you suggest we should best try to do, so we can have the awesome homebirth experience we want so badly? Any suggestions of things to ask the health dept tomorrow? any experiences with CHP+? And most importantly, because in the end we are willing to pay out of pocket, any recommendation on awesome and reasonable midwives in and around Boulder county?
