Updated to add Emmagrace's GG!

William Bryan was born at 2:15am on 12/3/12 via emergency c-section due to placenta abruption. He is in the NICU but is doing well. A very precious and chubby 8 lbs. 14 oz. and 21" long! Ill share more later and post some pictures but I'm just trying to recover from a very unexpected birth experience. Have started pumping and I've been getting a good amount of colostrum so that is really encouraging me.

Gwendolyn Grace aka "GG"

Nov 27, 2012  (37w1d)

7:45am

3lb 14oz

16" long

Quickie birth story:  My water broke early Saturday morning, and I freaked -- baby not even 37 weeks yet, and we knew she was small.  I went to see my midwife, who confirmed it was amniotic fluid, and we discussed my options.  We decided to go ahead and wait and try for the home birth.  I washed with Hibiclens every few hours to cut down on my possibility for infection, but by Monday I still only had minor occasional cramping and labor hadn't started.  I went for acupuncture Monday morning, then in the evening went for the castor oil and nipple stim.  Contractions started sometime around 11:30pm, mild but regular, around 7 minutes apart.  My doula arrived around 4am, but my contractions were still so mild, I was able to partially nap through them for nearly an hour.  They started becoming stronger around 6am, but I still thought I had a long road ahead, and didn't think my midwife needed to come yet.  I was...ahem... wrong.  About 7:30am things took a crazy jump in intensity.  My husband called the midwife about 7:40am, but GG wasn't going to wait, and I gave birth about three minutes later!  My doula (who had never attended a home birth) and I caught GG on the fly!  She was breathing, crying softly, and pinked up right away.  She stayed on my chest until my midwife arrived about a half hour later, and I delivered the placenta shortly thereafter.  After our midwife got GG and I checked out thoroughly, we made the decision to take her to the hospital to monitor her temp and sugars.  She was admitted to the NICU that afternoon, and we stayed there with her for five days until we came home Sunday night.  Apart from polycythemia, which was taken care of the first night, she was and is perfectly healthy, and we were very happy to finally get out of there.  Thankfully, I felt fit as a fiddle and was able to be there, although the hospital did their darndest to try to get me to admit myself, of course not trusting that my midwife had my care under control.  Here's my sweet girl her first morning home!700
