Torn Ab Muscle?

So I had mentioned in the symptoms thread that I had some intense pain in one location of my abdomen, which only lasted a few minutes on a couple days and didn't show up again... until yesterday at around 4 (around a week since I first noticed it). At first I tried to write it off as really severe round ligament pain, but I really don't think that's what is happening.

It feels like surface pain and not at all like it's inside my uterus, so I haven't gone to the hospital or anything, but the pain really hasn't subsided since it started and it's now been around 14 hours. It sort of goes away when I'm still, but it's so intense that it takes my breath away if I try to use my ab muscles at all (going from laying to sitting, sitting to standing, bending over, etc). I can't touch the spot on my stomach at all without searing pain, so I'm starting to think that I've torn a muscle or something. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Baby seems just fine kicking and squirming away in there and I already have an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow evening but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do in the meantime - especially since I have to go to work tomorrow.

Is this the same as you mentioned, up by your ribs? If so, YES, I totally get this. When you first described it I thought you were describing something more internal, like a sharp gas pain.

Mine always happens when I'm in bed and when I turn over from one side to another or move to get up. It lasts for several minutes. Rubbing it hurts, too. And the pain feels sort of burning, like a torn muscle. It's no where near my uterus, either, so I'm not worried about it but OUCH!

It sounds like your pain is still hanging around?
Mine has happened a few different times but eased up after several minutes. I've just made sure to use my arms a lot more in any kind of movement that would use my abs.

When it started happening yesterday, I was already out and figured it would just go away like it had before, so I kept doing what I was doing (stopping to crouch or lean over things when the pain overwhelmed me). I'm worried that this may have been a bad choice and is the reason the pain is still ongoing.

I'm really glad to hear that someone else has had something like this though, because I've been googling all over the place and I can't seem to be able to find others who have had similar experience. Most people complain that it hurts in their lower abdomen, but this is consistently toward the top center of my abdomen near my ribs.

My doctor told me it sounds like nerve pain. Either way there isn't anything that she or I can do about it, unfortunately, so I just have to suffer through it when it's happening.

The conversation went sort of like this:

"it really, really hurts"

"yep, nerve pain really hurts"

*silence*

nice.

great supportive dialog!  lol!

hope you get a good relaxing solution that helps!

i've been doing epsom salt baths, and resting a lot more the last couple of days after getting some nerve pain in my lower back.  massage helped a lot.

Do you feel like it's nerve pain?
Mine doesn't feel like nerve pain at all. It's not sharp like nerve pain is, nor does it travel like sciatic pain does.
I've definitely had to breathe through the pain and woke up dh one night (unintentionally) as I was breathing fairly loudly I guess and rubbing it, trying to see if a new position would help.

Ouch! Hope you start feeling better soon. That sucks that your doc wasn't more helpful.

It's a strange thing but I can't seem to remember exactly what it feels like when it isn't happening (like right now), but from my memory I could easily see it being nerve pain. It's really intense and isolated to one location, and touching anywhere near only makes it feel so much worse while it's happening and for a few hours afterward. I definitely have to breathe through the pain too though and it got to a point where I started questioning if this was what a contraction felt like at hour 14 or so, but I feel fine now and have for almost two days.

I'm very confident that it'll come back again, though. It seems to happen only on the weekends, so I'm trying to figure out if there's anything that's really different that I do only on those days.

Also, my doctor has officially established herself as fairly useless but easy to push around, so she's more of a tool that I use when my own research indicates one thing or another. It's a weird dynamic and kind of a shame that she isn't more helpful, but I'd rather it this way than to have her be really bull-headed.
