Inti was born at home on 11/14 at 2:06 pm after about 10 hours of labor. He baked for 41 weeks and 3 days!!
He was 8lbs, 1oz and 21.75 inches long
I typed this up and it ended up being really LONG... I decided to post anyway since I love reading birth stories no matter how long and figured some of you out there might enjoy it. So if you have time/desire, read on :)
After what seemed like weeks of thinking labor was finally going to start, I woke up to pee and heard a plop in the toilet- it was like my entire mucus plug with bloody show. Immediately after I started feeling pretty strong oh-yeah-these-are-for-sure-labor contractions. I tried to sleep though them and finally gave up around 3 when I went to the living room and would take little cat naps in between them and then walk around the living room during the rush. I called mw and let her know what was going on, she suggested I drink some wine and try to sleep. I woke SO up and told him we were finally having our baby (we were team green so we didn't know gender). He very excitedly got up and set up the birthing tub, then poured us each a glass of some special wine :) We sat around in the living room talking and sipping wine for like 30 mins, I would get up and walk through contractions. I was getting very nicely relaxed. At 4 I told SO to go back to sleep and I stayed on the couch so I could walk if I needed to (our room was crowded with birthing tub, king bed, crib, dresser, changing table, glider, side tables...) I partially slept until around almost 6 when I probably entered "active" labor and contractions were coming around 3 minutes apart and lasting 1 minute. I woke up SO and he recommended I call MW... then we hung around walking through contractions and him getting the house ready. MW and her apprentice arrived at 7, DD (who's 4) woke up at 7:30- I texted a friend to come over and we decided not to take dd to preschool. My friend arrived at 9... this whole time I'm just wandering around the house during contractions and trying to rest in between. I got in the shower with SO at some point and also walked around my big backyard barefoot... I remember sitting on the toilet having a very strong contraction and SO walking in to check on me and me just grabbing him and started making out with him, (I had heard this works with the intensity of the rushes... AND IT DOES!) and I could hear our dd laughing histerically in the background at Kipper on TV... I started crying joyfully cause everything just felt so awesome and peaceful and I felt this overwhelming happiness :) I could feel so connected to everything, specially SO, dd and baby. SO then started tearing up with me and we were crying and laughing at the same time :D
Anyway, mw decided I could finally get in the tub (i was prob 8cm at this point, around 11am) and I started feeling pushy... she said to listen to my body and do what I felt... I tried pushing but it felt awkard and painful! Contractions were really intense at this point and I started loosing my calm. I was hitting a wall. MW checked me and said I was completely dilated but there was a lip of my cervix holding the head (same thing happened with my daughter) and she tried to massage it away but it wouldn't budge. She suggested I push lightly if I felt like it and the contractions might just push baby through. This part got way too intense for me, I didn't know what to do with myself and felt like I wanted to run away!-- with dd the pushing part was actually relieving since pushing made the pain go away, this time pushing hurt, the contraction hurt, everything hurt! Also the lip that was left started to swell up and wouldn't let the head move down :( I sat on the toilet pushing for a bit but it was just too intense. I also got LOUD but I had asked SO to get everyone out of the house so I could feel free to yell and do whatever was needed to get this baby out. I told him I couldn't do it and he kept reassuring me. Then I got off the toilet and into our bathtub in all fours and finally felt like I got a hang of pushing, I had to push through the pain and it was incredibly uncomfortable but at least I was doing it now. Mw came in and checked me and said that my pushing was actually moving the head down now and she could push the cervix that was left out of the way. She then told me to go to the bed so I could rest between contractions (at this point I was telling everyone I gave up and wanted to eat and take a nap- in my mind I wanted to go to a hospital and have the baby cut out of me! but I never voiced this... I also think at some point I started crying!) Well off to the bed we went, then I has pushing in the typical laying back, knees up position- but it was actually working, Things happened really quick from this point on. One contraction, me reluctantly pushing but with all my strength and the head was out! I got to touch it and I remember feeling like now I could take a break! They all had to convince me to keep pushing and I kept taking deep breaths but not gathering enough strength to do it, Then finally pushing for a whole contraction and the baby wouldn't budge. He was stuck! The two mws looked worried and this state of emergency filled their faces; oddly enough I was in a peaceful haze by then and just got on all fours like they told me, another push and with the help of the mw getting in there and twisting/pulling the stuck shoulders HE WAS OUT! I looked down in between my legs and got to see the whole thing :) He came out really purple and limp but I just knew everything was ok... I looked in between his legs and yelled out: "it's a BOY!" I was ecstatic :) I got him on my chest and leaned back as the mw came towards me and said: "wait, we have to give him mouth to mouth" but I looked down at him and just then he took a big breath and started screaming :D I knew he was perfect! No need to resuscitate or anything,
Just then my mom walked back in the house to see how things were going and she heard baby cries from the room, so she called everyone else back in and DD came right in the room about 5-10 minutes after baby Inti was born. She was so excited about baby brother and said: "I knew it was a boy all along!", she also got to witness the placenta coming out (which was kind of gory cause they had to pull it out and it came out in pieces and squirting blood) but she seemed more fascinated than scared... She did mention that my vagina looked "very big" lol
Anyway, everything has been amazing since then :) baby had some trouble latching on at first but is now a pro at it and will latch on by himself (which makes it really easy at night). He is all peeling for staying in there too long :) Big sister is handling it really well and hasnt really acted up, she is very, very loving towards baby brother.
And I'm just spending my time cuddling with the baby :D It's so blissful <3
Sorry this ended up being so long... And hoping all babes and mamas are doing great!
