That said, we've got nothing. My husband and I both write, and have blown all the good names on our fictional characters and cats :/ Since you can't very well raise a nameless child, we'll have to remedy this situation some how, eventually. We're still pretty stumped at the moment, however.

Clara is still there in my head.  I don't even know if it's a girl yet, but I can't help but feel that's the name.  Weird, we had a whole list of names the first time around, I didn't think I'd be so single-minded.

Try the random name generator (boy names and girl names) on thinkbabynames.  It is unlikely to give you a good combo, but some of them will give you a laugh and maybe a bit of inspiration.

Accidentally posted here when I meant to post in a different thread!

Whoops! That whole post was supposed to be in the Genetic Testing thread. That's what I get for posting from my phone. Sorry!

For the moment we're narrowing in on Ravenna Violet (or Violet Ravenna) . . . we met in Ravenna (Seattle), and that could easily be shortened to Raven, though I would prefer to call her Violet myself, and the husband likes the simple nickname "V". Of course, all of our name fancies thus far have been fleeting. Faye and Ramona have both topped the list at various times, for about a week a piece. My love would go with Ramona or Astrid were it up to him alone, and I'm still sold on Faye. I also love the name Nico, but that one got shot down as soon as I brought it up. This naming business is hard work! I'm sure we'll not know what our daughter ends up being called until we're signing her birth certificate . . . no idea how people do this!

Xobel, sounds like both you and DH might prefer Violet first. It's lovely. I know a very sweet little girl with that name. Astrid is great, its a pretty name, and also a character in one of the best TV shows ever! I like Nico a lot too sorry your DH shot that one down.

I was thinking Matilda. DH hates it. But I love the Australian song, and the character from the roald dahl book. DH may just have to suck it.

Part of me wants something short, single syllable, maybe quirky for this one. I have a Sylvia, a Clementine, a Penelope (who is often Penny). We tend to name classically. I know Naomi will be in the running this time, along with Margret and Lillian, because they all were last time. I think if I named her Margret, I'd want to call her Margot. Is that a doable nickname?

Banana, I like your taste in names! Penelope is on our short list for this one if its a girl. However, Margot always makes me think of The Royal Tenenbaums: "this is my adopted daughter, Margot." :-P

I LOVE the name Margot because of that movie! Actually, if we had a girl, it would be one of my top picks. My dog is named Royal, also from the movie. :-)

I really like the name Margot! Along with the (totally awesome) character from the Royal Tenenbaums, Anne Frank's sister was named Margot, as was a very very sweet, fun girl that I worked with years ago. Nothing but good - or at least historically interesting - connotations in my mind.

And Coffeebean - Hilarious about your dog. Our cat is named Eli -- deliberately from that movie as well :D

It is an awesome movie smile.gif

Xobel- that's awesome about your cat Eli!

I hear you!  We have used up most of the girl names I like on cats and goats (Saffron, Ruby, Pearl, Ramona).  But there are a couple still in the running from last time.

Banana- We had Mathilde on the list when we had a son, and I still love that one.  Although, I think our hesitation was its meaning "powerful warrior", I think.  Then I just started imagining having a "powerful warrior" teenage girl!  hehe!  Still, I love the name.

DH gets all silly when we start the name game.  Last time he said, regardless of the sex, he wanted to name it Robo-Cop....  hmmm.

see if you can hunt down a bottle of Goose Island Mathilde beer. It and their Sofia made my husband wanna name our baby Mathilde or Sofia. I said those names would have been fine names, but naming a kid after a beer is not ok.

My 3 year olds name is Reann Jolee Morris. Don't know gender of baby 2 yet. Thinking Rian for boy or Renay Jolene for girl. If boy I still need a middle name with an S smile.gif

Tonight, DS told me he wants to name baby sister "Butter Bottom." Hmm, helpful.

So we may have decided on a boys name, but are still debating since my DH is concerned about the baby's initials.  I'm hesitant just because its a more popular name right now. Just want to put it out there to hear your thoughts?

Chase Oliver D.

So baby's initials would be COD.  We're not into monogramming, so that wouldn't really be an issue.

I think having COD for initials would be awesome. I think I might go by Cod or even Codfish if I were an über cool snowboarder or surfer, or mountain climber, or in a band. I'm not sure my SAHM status makes me cool enough that I can carry a nickname like Codfish. In that case initials are pretty irrelevant, like if you're an accountant.

How many syllables is your last name? I slightly prefer Oliver Chase D_ if it's only one syllable, if that's even in the table. Though, if youre worried about COD I imagine OCD is definitely not going to fly....
