Dolls?

My dd is 17 months old and recently I noticed her paying a lot of attention to this plastic doll somebody gave her. I'm thinking I'd like to get her a nice doll for Christmas. I'm in India and would have to order this online. Any suggestions on what would be suitable and durable for her age? Or is this still too young? She's currently in the stage where she scribbles on everything, and doesn't think twice to destroy things.

My 21 month loves her dolls also. She has a couple cabbage patch dolls that are nice and durable.

My 2.9 year old seems to love stuffed animals over dolls right now. She does have a baby doll, but doesn't play with it.

In our experience, "nice" dolls are not as appealing at a young age.  My DD got into a baby doll phase when she was just around a year old, and really responded to the mass market-type doll she got for her first birthday.  She did NOT respond to the really nice Kathy Kruse doll my sister got for her.  I think it was too abstract.  Nowadays, though, her pretend play has really blossomed, and she can pretend that a stick is a baby - and now she's taken to the Kathy Kruse.  So, based on our experience, I might get her a doll stroller or other accessory now, and hold off on the nice doll until she's a bit older.

All 3 of mine got a Corolle baby doll for their first Christmas, and each of them play with their doll all the time.  I definitely recommend them.  They have very sweet little faces that babies seem instantly drawn to, and are quite durable.  We bought the 15" baby dolls with cloth bodies and no hair.
