Big home projets? Take two! « Back to Group Discussions

Way back when we started this DDC, I started a thread on home projects that we were planning on doing in preparation for baby.  Instead of digging for it, I'm just starting a new one!

Anyone has big home projects?  How are they going along?

We were (are) planning on finishing our basement to have a playroom and office/guest room downthere.  The bedroom serving as this is going to be DD's "big girl" room.  I can't say things are moving along!!!  That room has now turned into one giant "I don't know where else to put it so I"m throwing it in there" closet!

I have some time off this afternoon because my MW appointement was rescheduled, and I though of going to work a bit packing stuff away.  But I walked in there, stood in the middle of the piles of stuff and walked back out!

Baby will be staying in our room for probably the first 6 montsh or so, so we're not hugely hurried to get things done, but I can't imagine DP working on the basement and assembling DD's new furniture with a newborn and a toddler around. So I"m hoping to have things done before March!  Plus, DD is super excited to get her new room and asks almost every day if we can go to Ikea to get her new bed!

ok...enough typing.  I am marching up there and getting to work!  Yup!  Look at me do it!

LOL.  We have a new bathroom that is... still in the planning stages.  Well, we've got a new hot water heater and plumbing stubs in, but that's it.  It's kind of DH's baby, I'm not allowed to do reno stuff because I'm not a perfectionist like he is.  So, whatever.  When he says it's time for it to stop being a closet I'll go get some coat hooks so we've got somewhere else to put our outside clothes and I'll move the cat box - that's the extent of my participation there!  I already did the Ikea shop for the sink & cabinets.  (Major hardship, that. )

We are still planning on getting our basement finished. We had a quote today, which will probably be out of our price range. We can't seem to find anyone who wants our business. It's so frustrating. We'd like to get started on it, but no one wants to call us back. Our reasoning is that we'd like to get the basement finished before moving DH's painting stuff down to the basement in order to free up the current room that he's using to move DS into. He'd like to get it repainted no later than January so it has time to air out before moving DS in there. I know we have time, because this new baby will be in with us for a good 4-6 months (or more), but we're planners. Ugh.

Yes-- we are planning some big projects here, too!  

We have a cozy 1500 sq foot ranch (one story) with no basement.  We have three bedrooms, a big open living room/kitchen/dining room, and then a den in the back.  Our den has a half bath in it and we are hoping to turn it into our new master bedroom and then the three kids can have the three bedrooms (they are all next to each other).  In order to do this, we need to remove the coal/wood burning stove and chimney from the den.  We have big plans to redo the half bath in there, too, but may not get to it before the birth.  I want to set up our birth pool in this room and use it for the homebirth, so I want it to be nice!  

We just set up our Christmas tree last night and it looks so pretty.  :)

You are all an inspiration! I don't have any big projects on my agenda. Dang, it's already December and I've still not managed to replace the crummy weather stripping on the back door. DH and I are absolute louts when it comes to home projects!

I WOULD like to set up our small sunroom as a nice art studio space for DD, so that she has a good option for messier winter projects. Methinks I will need all the help I can get when February rolls around and I'm not feeling like bundling us up for an outing!

What if you converted the stove into a fire place? It would take more time, but, wow! A fire place in your bedroom, how romantic would that be?

It would be amazing!  I love having that stove!  But... the stove is humungous and there isn't enough room for our bed and dressers if we leave it.  It seriously takes up like a third of the room!  We are planning on saving it and when we have time and money, we'll put it in our living room.  :)

My addition reno's are coming along nicely.  It doesn't seem like I've done anything the last couple weeks though.  The master bedroom is complete except for baseboard (not a priority) and the bathroom ceiling (just waiting for the fan to arrive.)  The 140 gallon fish tank was successfully moved to it's spot, acting like a wall between the bedroom and the bathroom.  And I finished the cupboards below and above the fish tank using left-over flooring.  I just need to sew a curtain to hide the gap above the fish tank and on either side so it looks neat and tidy.

That picture makes it look so small... It's 6 feet long...

The downstairs still needs lots of TLC...  I just haven't felt like doing much since finishing the drywall.  The paint is bought for the spare / craft / storage room and the bathroom and the hallway.  It just needs to find its way onto the walls and ceilings.  No floor yet.  I'd like to tile the hallway soon (tile bought) since I doubt I'll feel like it in the new year. 

The baby's room needs paint and flooring (flooring not really a priority, we'll see.  I have stain that I might use in the mean time.)  I haven't bought the paint or even been seriously looking.  That, too, is on the priority list.  My parents are coming up for Christmas and I know they'll help lots, so I think part of me is just waiting for them.

Can't show this to DP! He's been wanting an aquarium like that for so long, but I'm just not sure where we'd put it!!!

We renovated the kitchen two years ago and still don't have baseboards!!!

Bena - just make a wall somewhere and put it in .  The thing I like the most about it is that I had the plumber run water right to it so I don't have to haul buckets of water!!!!!  You can see the tap on the right side of the picture.

I've lived in my house for over 8 years and there's areas that still don't have baseboard.  I just can't get excited about it.
