Med. Question- Just released from the hospital

Does anyone have any experience with nifedipine? I just spent two days in the hospital for some chest pain/breathing issues. Good news is the baby is fine, though they did find that I was contracting some. I spent 24+ hours on a heart monitor and they did find that I have an arrhythmia and episodes where my heart rate jumps up. However, I didn't have a major episode while being monitored. Anyway, the other tests didn't find anything (leg ultrasound for clots, echo, blood work) so they sent me home with what they admitted was just a guess at a solution. They think it could be related to the contracting, or a spasm of my esophagus, so they prescribed nifedipine to take just when I start to feel an episode coming on. However, I'm feeling a little unsure bc I already have low blood pressure and overnight when they gave me the meds, it dropped to like 76/30 at one point. But they didn't seem alarmed. Any thoughts?

The birth center I'm using is closed today though I could page them if I really need to. I have an appt scheduled with them on Monday. I was really regretting that I went to the closest hospital instead of the one that the OB from the birth center has privileges at. I haven't talked to them about what the doctors said because I wasn't given much information until late last night, right before I was discharged.

Wow Vegan, I am so sorry you're going through this. I, unfortunately have no experience with the drugs they gave you, although it would kind of freak me out if my blood pressure dropped through the floor after taking it! That's a bit scary, along with all the other scary things you've been enduring over the past two days.

I hope someone on here has some info for you.

In this case, I think you should be ok to call the OB at your birth center even though they are closed. I'm sure they have had calls for less urgent issues and it sounds like it will be a very stressful weekend for you, otherwise.
