Amanda, looking at my kids' baby calendars, I have their sleeps through the night stickers put down at something like 4 months because they were technically doing it then. But then came changes and teeth and I remember that it wasn't always consistent so I take them with a grain of salt.

I gave Shay some Tylenol and he is crazy hyper.

Tylenol keeps Eli awake, makes for rough nights, so I try to hold off given him any. But obviously if he has a fever like he did when he got his cold Christmas Eve, I gave him some. Eli did sleep through the nig around 4 months too, but then got his first tooth, and that was the end of that. This is the first time in forever that he is sleeping better.

We gave Shay the Tylenol hours ago. He has been bouncing off the walls ever since. He doesn't have a fever but obviously feels like crap ( and the verbal kids were clear that they felt crummy at this stage of spots).

Sara, I would think the same but I was still writing in paragraphs back then... She was my first. I wrote some cheesy stuff like, "Now you are sleeping in your big girl room all night until 9 am every morning! Wow! You are such a big girl!!" Monthly updates. However, I do remember that it took all night to put her to bed. I'd be in there until 11 trying to get her to sleep. Even after dd2 was born... I'd have both of them in dd1's bed, trying to get her to sleep. So it's a trade off. Honestly, I think I'll take the night waking.... At least he goes to sleep at 8 and I get some grown up time! But I do still envy the solid sleep I got.

We got he girls a trampoline for Christmas. Dd1 has been in such a great mood ever since! She jumps for hours a day. I've read that trampolines are great for kids with ASD. Interesting....

Isn't Tylenol better for fevers and ibuprofen for pain? Jasper has been waking a bunch tonight, which is odd. We figured he wasn't feeling well, so we brought him down and gave him some ibuprofen. Now he is up, roaming around a 11:36. Oh well... It's just one night!

Ibuprofen will usually work better on fevers too, if Tylenol does not work or if its particularly high. But yes the general rule is Tylenol for fevers, Ibuprofen for pain.  You should always try Tylenol first, though, because it is supposedly easier on the system.  My girls always get high fevers when they get them- I'm talking 4 days of 103-104 degrees.  It is MISERABLE.  And every time B gets even a slight bug, or if too many teeth come in at once we have days of fever.  Winter has not been easy on her.  Its been happening once a month or so, to the point that even though I'm used to it because of ODD I took her to the doctor anyways.  I just don't mess around with fevers since my older kids both had febrile siezures.

Amanda, it does sound like a trade off. I never kept a paragraph style baby book, just not that cool. When i was pregnant I went back and read all my MDC posts and EC emails about them but I know that i tended to write more about the positives. My 9 year old (who I don't think is on the spectrum but many other people do) also spends huge amounts of time on the trampoline. It's been a warm fall so he could. Now we have snow so it's a no go.

Ash, my kids and I get high fevers, but I've been fortunate to miss seizures so far. When Soren had the pox we were alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen to keep his under control. My drug book says the ibuprofen dose can change depending on the height if the fever so we certainly kept that in mind. Our biggest problem with him was that they both made him gag and puke.

I put socks on Shay's hands last night but he got them right off. He was scratching in his sleep half the night. The big kids are old enought to not scratch. Soren is not coordinated enough to scratch. Shay is going to be interesting. He already has a lot more spots than Soren.

Sora's doctor advised us to avoid Tylenol this young if at all possible because recent studies have shown Tylenol might lead to a significantly higher chance of childhood asthma. Since my family has a history of asthma, I'm being cautious at this point. I have given Sora Tylenol several times but am hoping to be successful with just Motrin in the future. Joanie, that's interesting. I don't think we have any asthma risk in our families so I'm not going to stress much about it but I will keep it in mind.

Here where I live, you don't have any options.  You can only get Tylenol.  That is why I am interested in trying the one that Kids 0-9 makes:

http://kids0-9.ca/pain-fever.html

It is homeopathic... way safer than Tylenol.  I am interested to see if it really does reduce fevers.  My little guy isn't feeling so well today.  He slept well but seems to have taken a step back health wise.  I though that his cold was clearing up.  But he is super snotty this morning and lots of crying :(  maybe the cold in addition to teething is causing his distress.

Ugh, I lost 15 lbs prior to Christmas and was really careful about gaining any of it back.  And today I seem to be up 3 lbs.  Too much chocolate and good food lol.

Well I am going for a nice walk with Eli now, since the weather seems to not be to yucky.  Rain is bound to come soon ...

Our neighbor is on the spectrum and his parents got him a trampoline a year ago and he has been on that thing every day, rain or shine, snow or freezing cold.  My kids love it, too!

We almost always give motrin for pain or fever because it lasts longer.  When the fever is really high, our ped recommended motrin as well, in fact, double the normal dose for fevers over 101.

Thats ok, I'm sure it will be easier to get yourself back on the right track now that temptation isn't everywhere.  Holidays are hard!  I also gained 3 pounds since October.  I lost 30 total this last year.

Joanie- I have never heard that.  Interesting.

Sonja, where do you live that you can't get Motrin? We actually crushed children's meds at the dose for Soren and mixed it with applesauce once because he couldn't handle the liquid. All our meds say not for kids under 2, but I did the calculations based on weight.

Jaimee, my book says to double the dose above 102.5.

Holiday weight gain, I haven't stepped on a scale! Last check I was 3 pounds below my normal weight (137, so I've been 134 lately).

Oh man.

Double post.

I think I was 140 at my health screening at work last month. Which is a good weight for me technically, but I was getting into the low 130s previously. Bummer! I haven't yet figured out how to get exercise into my routine now that I'm working. Also, it's colder and gets dark so early.

I've resolved to cut out animal products as much as possible, so that should help. I tend to eat too much dairy.

Prior to finding out about the little one inside, I had recently started counting calories and exercising again... I was down 5lbs... 6lbs from my prepreg weight... I got to 151. I got an app on my phone that's for pregnant women... It's a food pyramid. You enter in what you eat and it tells you if you're eating too much or too little of something. I really don't want to gain 50lbs again.

We give Conner Tylenol.

I live in Victoria BC, Sara.  They might have Motrin for older kiddos.  I didn't know that I could adjust the dose.  I did end up giving Eli some tylenol before I left for my walk with him since he was quite clearly in a lot of pain.

As for the weight gain (bah!) I knew that over the holidays it would be foolish to stay on our diet since the temptations are everywhere etc.  I am a so called 'fluffy' mamma, so I have to watch my weight more than most people.  I want to loose quite a bit more before I want to consider TTC for a second babe.  I think I need to at least loose another 30 to 40 lbs.  With Eli, I lost 5 lbs when I was about 12 weeks along, and for the remainder of my pregnancy only gained 3 lbs back.  When he was born I lost a total of 20lbs, but when Eli was about 3 months old, I started gaining weight back rapidly.  So now it is doing the hard work and loosing it again.  Safely.  Diet and exercise.  The first 15lbs came off in 2 weeks of doing purely fruits/veggies and lean meats (no starches/carbs/sugars/processed junk).  And lots of walking.  I take Eli for 2 hour walks every day when the weather holds up.  A little shorter when my hubby is on his days off.

Nicole, that sounds better than a calorie counting ap!

Sonja, that's where I thought you were. Depending on the strength of your med, you can figure it up.

Does dieting like that affect your milk supply?  Mine always tanks when I cut back calories.

I have no idea what to do now that I cannot eat any nuts or dairy.  So I have been eating like crap since cutting out nuts/legumes/dairy.  We were doing a paleo-esque diet, but that is pretty much out now because all of the alternative flours and whatnot are nut based or contaminated.   I try to choke down meat once a day but it disgusts me.  Im filling all those spots with carbs because if I go down to fruits, veggies, and meats I lose almost my whole milk supply.  Its awful.  Im at a loss, but I need to start trying again.

Ashley, I actually found that it didn't lessen my supply this time around. I tried to calorie count around the time Eli was 10 months old, and my supply tanked badly. i think the difference is that we still ate regular meals but portion controlled. and of cause Eli is down to only nursing 3 times a day - morning, twice at night before bedtime and he gets Hemp milk once a day.

I loved doing the diet we were on - eating fresh fruits/veggies/lean proteins/eggs/yogurt. For us mostly it has been trying to afford fresh produce etc on single income. That is why we ate a lot of carbs/processed stuff because it is just so much cheaper... Sad but true.
