Gush of amniotic fluid? Most probably not but how should I proceed?

I am 28 weeks now.

I was sitting on the couch having a snack with DS and felt that my underwear was wet. I was dancing with him and dragging, lifting him, right before I sat.  We were drinking water and this bottle usually leaks.  I remember the bottle being always on the coffee table, though. Or I could have rested the bottle by my hips at some point without noticing. The couch is of a non absorbent material so any liquid would have just traveled and rested on the next absorbent surface. But c'mom, I am pregnant then I get up to a wet underwear plus my two layers of clothing. I got scared and I cannot troubleshoot it.

The liquid was not sticky. It was not discharge. It did not smell like urine. It was very thin like water, more to the back of my underwear. My posture was very leaned back, so yes, I could have actually leaked and it pooled right to the back.

I am changing providers (long fight for a VBA2C) and I don't feel quite comfortable to call my just met midwife. We haven't even succeeded in changing my health insurance so she can get paid. Besides, it is the weekend and I am not a worrier. I could also call the hospital where I was following my pre-natal (a clinic, not a private OB).  But I know for sure, that calling such clinics will just warrant a request to show up at the ER or L&D.

I have been dry for 3 hours since. I am not a super worrier. But I don't want to be neglectful either.  Please, share your experience or knowledge about early rupture of membranes. What should I be watching for? Can I leak and stop? Or, if I am dry, it is certainly a sign that I never really leaked.

Thanks ladies.

Hmmm, did you take a bath today?  I had a time when I took a bath and i was leaking trhougout the day, quite a bit.  I also had a time when I was leaking urine but it didn't smell like urine.

I think also that a small tear can reseal itself.  I would check my temp and take some vit C.  You can always go to the doc and they can just test the liquid and tell if it is amniotic fluid or not.  If you have PH paper, you can check yourself too.  Amniotic fluid should be around  a 7.  Urine will be much more acidic.

I had a friend whose mucus plug was literally turning to liquid and pouring out before building back up toward the end of her pregnancy. I'd imagine it's unusual for that to happen, but it's possible.

Did you have sex within a few hours of this? I've found that within a few hours after sex I have a lot of discharge that is much more runny. It also might have been really diluted urine (which wouldn't smell very strongly) if you were drinking a lot of water?

Do you have a way to test pH?
Normal vaginal pH is about 4.5 -5 and amniotic fluid will be about 7.
However, semen, vaginal infections and blood tinged mucous can also raise the pH.

You'd want to test the actual moisture inside your vagina, not the liquid outside. I've had urine test 6.5 and I don't know if that would ease fears or just make me worry more.

Some people notice that amniotic fluid smells sweet or like semen, some people notice no odor at all.

And yes, small tears can reseal, but just be aware of any more possible leakage, as I'm sure you are.

i've been leaky more than usual this pregnancy.  not as much as this incident, but enough to have sniffed a lot of fluids.  i wouldn't worry about a 1-time thing, but keep an eye out.

my arousal fluids have become more pronounced, and also i haven't been able to clear out post-coital fluids as well either (leading to much later leakage).

and sometimes, if i'm well hydrated, i leak pretty much unscented fluids, but i always notice immediately.

keep us posted.

my urine pH is 7.... and it was 7 last time, and the time before.  so you want to test inside and not get confused or worried by the pH.

Hi ladies.

I've been completely dry and monitoring since yesterday. Baby is moving. I decided not to take temperature because I am fighting a Flu, any temperature would make me confused. I don't have a home ph test. Is it available at a pharmacy? It should be good to have at home.

I had no sex before but I did drink a lot of water and went in a "work out" when dancing with DS. (by the way, i just intalled spotify to listen to music, its awesome) So I am now believing that I could have leaked some urine due to the physical effort and distraction. Then It did not smell because I had drank so much water.

I'm trusting that since there was no more liquid or even moisture and since my baby is moving like always. I must be in the safe side.

Thank you so. I felt so silly. What if I really poured water down my butt while distracted? Oh my, add a prego head with a silly toddler, what a scene!

Cracking up at sniffing a lot of fluids, same here!

And totally leaking postcoital fluids for what seems like the whole rest of the day.
