Dingoes Running in Search of Light and Warmth in December! - Page 2

Awesome brush with fame.
My only excitement during grocery shopping today was a mysterious text from my husband that said, "Is it the big orange thing on the counter?" After some puzzling I realized it was a reference to my request that he start roasting the squash for stuffed noodles. I had given very specific how-to-roast-squash directions, but left out the what-does-squash-look-like part (to his credit, I don't often buy kabocha, but still....)

Sparkle - Lucky!  I love Pinkman!  He spoke to you!  No worries about not texting, I didn't remember to bring my cell to town (the only place it works) and I wouldn't have known what to do with a text.  But I told dh you called him the Saul of SJI and he beamed.

Mommajb - I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry at that one!  But I'm glad that you are getting good ice time!  That's awesome.

MelW - Scary and hectic for sure! I'm glad you were home when the hospital called or it would have been that much more so!  The run in Victoria sounds lovely though.  Interesting about the email updates from Google.

Geo - Good job in recruiting new RPs.  Speaking of Google, I had to go there for Bad Astronomer and then of course I got lost reading for a long while.  orngtongue.gif

RM - Good luck!

KM - Yay for the beginning of a plan!  I find it much easier to get workouts done if they are somehow assigned.

Gaye - I never know how you do it all!    Amazing!  I'm with RM, haven't even decided if I'll try to do them.

Shanti - Fingers crossed for you to get the job and that it will be just the right fit.

Lofty - I love picturing you in your old 'hood.

JayGee - How are you feeling?

Nic - 12 miles!  That's a nice chunk of peace and quiet.

Jo - Oh my.  You're seeing high school looming that close on the horizon?  I can't look!

I'd like to think my DH could identify a squash on the counter, but I might be mistaken.

Yup, know about google alerts. I got called a boffin in the British press, so I had to get confirmation from some Brits to confirm it wasn't an insult. This potential RP's main fault is that she didn't know who the Bad Astronomer is. Geez. eyesroll.gif

Of course, now I have to admit I have no clue who Pinkman is.

Pinkman is the character on Breaking Bad; the friend/accomplice/assistant to Walter White (the main guy) Pinkman's real name is Aaron Paul. he won the emmy for best supporting actor this year, and maybe last. He's cute, and very talented. Dh said it took a minute to realize that he was seeing a celebrity, b/ c he's used to seeing Pinkman in Abq on the show lol.gif

I dont know who the Bad Astronomer is shrug.giflol.gif

Well, off to google what Breaking Bad is...

I ran this morning by myself. It wasn't horrible.
And I had to google Pinkman AND Bad Astronomer!!!

Van was $700 and I still need 4 new tires. Sigh....

Feeling better, back to the library today. It is Santa's Cottage week in the library where we sell all kinds of junk for the children to buy for family members for the holidays. Not my favorite week, but the kids love it.

RR - none, still coughing

Crap. Crap. Crap.
My holiday cards did not turn out as expected. The main photo is too dark . I was worried about it but every time I previewed the photo it looked okay and snapfish didn't warn me like it has on others so I went ahead and ordered them. There are two much smaller photos that are visible. I am not re-ordering on account of expense. Do I spend more on postage and mail them for all the reasons one sends cards or do I just skip the money and effort? If I send them do I include a note saying I know they are bad? I hate failing but I am not getting new cards or printing more photos. These cards or nothing. I think I am skipping it and cutting my losses. These turned out to be some expensive envelopes. eyesroll.gif

I've never run steady with a partner, just few and far between episodes with people I wasn't well matched with. I always wished I had one. I'm with ya. I do run with a couple local running clubs every couple weeks, but that doesn't count because it's more about drinking beer and singing silly songs (hash house harriers? Anyone?).

Also, I've never seen Breaking Bad. I think I didn't get the channel when it started and then it was because I don't like picking up series in the middle without seeing the rest. Eh.

I started breaking bad and I don't know what happened. I'll have to revisit that one.

RR: none today, didn't have time before this mornings shower and not sure I feel like it later. I did a body weight workout though so it's not a complete loss. I'll run tomorrow morning.

NRR: hubby bought gifts without any money limit and plan but only for some people. So now he expects me to fill in the gaps without spending money. Huh? I am excited thought that I bought him three gifts he wants/needs this year. He's hard to buy for. Even after he told me he bought his present to himself thinking that it could be from the kids land myself even though he said he knows I donT like to do that AND didn't talk to me about it first. *rolleyes*

By the by, I had an absolutely gorgeous run in the unseasonably warm weather yesterday (nearly 70 degrees in upstate NY), and today am due for a track workout after the parent teacher conference this afternoon. Of course, today it's 30 degrees and the snow is blowing. Trying to talk myself into it isn't going so well. A running partner would suuuuuure be handy!

Breaking Bad is on cable -- hence the fact I've never heard of it.  Of course, living under a rock contributed as well.

I ran by myself for years.  Then I started running with a few women on my street.  It was addicting to have someone to run with -- we ran faster, further, and more often.  However, one woman drove me nuts (all she could talk about was her 4 year old daughter's social life and dieting), and the other one just couldn't sustain evening running and switched to 5 am.  So I started running with a woman who coached DD's soccer team when she was in 2nd grade.  Frankly, the woman's intensity drove me bonkers, but I was getting desperate for a better running partner than the neighbor I affectionately dubbed "size 4."  Anyways, the intensity works when running long distances.  I now know her really well, and she knows me well enough that I can now interrupt her third digression within a digression to get her back to the main point.  Since I've now run with someone for just about every run for the last 4 years, I struggle to motivate myself to get out the door on my own, and if I do, I struggle to go much further than 2 miles.  I managed 3 miles this morning plus 4 trips up the bleachers, 3 sets of planks and 2 sets of pushups.  I call that a win.

Agreed, it's a win. smile.gif

Breaking Bad is on Netflix "Watch Instantly". That's where Ive seen all that I have... Its filmed in my city, so its fun to see places I know.... plus the show is awesome lol.gif
post #38 of 267
Ok, here's what I know. I don't know who Jesse Pinkman is. I've never heard of Breaking Bad. I don't know the Bad Astronomer either. Googling them all after I google Geo's last name.
I will add Breaking Bad to my Netflix queue along with Bernie. Has anyone heard of that movie? After trying to explain where I live in Texas, someone asked, "Y'mean where Bernie was filmed?" Close. The courthouse scene actually took place in our county. Looking forward to seeing ABQ in Breaking Bad...

Okay, first Google search done. Geo, you are fascinating. And lovely pix. I'm printing the article about the elements in the earth's core and the decaying of radioactive materials for our Science discussion on Friday. We're in the process of wrapping up a semester studying Earth Science. I know. Brief. All you need to know in 18 weeks.

RR: None greensad.gif Still wiped out from the long drive to and fro, from not sleeping well and from waaaaaay too much imbibing. Whoah. Not 20 anymore. Or 30. Or even 40. Want to run, maybe tomorrow but it's our "city" day so for sure (FOR SURE) Friday!

MommaJB, I'd still love to see the other two pix. You're still on the list for cards, right?

Must go wrangle 4 kids and force them all to read for the next 30 min bc I really just want to curl up with a book. smile.gif

I didn't know who Pinkman was until I googled, but have seen a bit of Breaking Bad on Netflix. As with all, my husband watches and I catch glimpses. Bad Astronomer was familiar, but I googled to be sure. I'll give myself 50% on the dingo reference score of the week.

Geo, your running partners over the years sound motivating. If only I could find someone as irregularly available as I am: want to run at 6 am on Monday, 9:30 on Tuesday, 4 pm on Wednesday, etc. etc. Throw in a few night shifts (when I really need a partner to motivate me, but rarely have one) and I'm a pretty solo runner. Thursday night trail group starts again in the spring and I'm excited for it. Just have to get through this whole winter thing first.

Lofty, I hope the imbibing was fun enough to make the hangover worth it. On a particularly difficult homeschooling day last week I was mentally creating a hs-ing parent drinking game. I would have been very drunk following my own rules.

Kids want bedtime snack. Must go.

JayGee--sorry about the van and the cough. I just dropped our car off for service. I think the service guy will be biglaugh.gif when he gets to the last thing I listed, about how the trunk of our car falls unexpectedly when open. The other issues included that the auto-dim function of the rearview mirror no longer works, the alignment seems to be off, and it's making some sort of weird noise that even the service guy couldn't identify (last week he said to drop by and he'd listen and see if it was a "stop driving immediately" bad noise or a "eh, it can wait a few days" noise. He heard it, looked at me, and said he'd never heard that one before. Good times!

Geo--good luck finding a new partner!

~not exactly living under a rock, but didn't know about Bad Astronomer or Pinkman either. At least I'm familiar with the Gangum Style video....~

RM--sorry about the DH's apparently random gift plan. Ugh.

tjsmama--WTG on the Christmas cards! Wow.

mommajb--I think I'd be tempted to not send them, but then again, I might send them with a note. I ordered some photo cards but haven't looked at them yet. I'll probably send them no matter what....

Sorry I'm so behind!

NRR: update on my niece first: they pulled the chest tube on Sunday (hooray!). She spiked a fever for unknown reasons late Sunday night, so they decided to keep her until Tuesday morning. She's home now. I haven't gotten any phone calls, so I'm going to assume it's a no news is good news scenario. (My mother calls me the minute there's bad news, but tends not to call if everything is fine. I guess that's good.)

I got to spend several hours on Sunday with Baby C. He's so cute. I'm not really a baby person, but there's something to be said for spending time with a newborn while not say, recovering from surgery + 9 months of hyperemesis + pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes. The fact that I get decent sleep with a toddler (who does wake up overnight but not every 2 hours) helps too, no doubt. He was 11 weeks/ 1 week developmentally on Sunday, so he acts like a newborn, complete with the sleep where they make a bunch of random faces. I took this picture when he had one of those moments.

Choir and orchestra concert tomorrow, complete with choir rehearsal, dress rehearsal for both and actual concert.

RR: 6 miles, including speedwork. It was an improvement over yesterday, where I did weights and ran all of a mile on the treadmill before giving up to the migraine that wasn't backing down.
