What's your fundal height? (singleton, multiples?) - Page 6
At my 28 week ultrasound, babe was measuring big... they said she was about 29.5 weeks. However, fundal height has always been right on... until today. 37 weeks and I measured at 35.5 cm. What could that mean, should I be worried? I wonder why I'm measuring so small today when 2 weeks ago and always before that, I was right on.
TJ - fundal height can stay the same or go up in the last few weeks of pregnancy, depending on the positioning of the baby. If it drops down in your pelvis, you may not grow any more in fundal height. My midwives are not worried about fundal height much past 36 weeks, unless it goes down dramatically.
So now they are watching for growth, and if its still off next week then they will consider a growth ultrasound.
Has anyone else been 4cm off?? I measured right on with my son all the way up to birth.. So hasn't happened to me before.
Different people can measure fundal height differently, so if it was back to your usual midwife measuring, and back to measuring on the "small" side, Id say its likely that the student just measured differently and you didn't actually have a huge growth and shrink.
Yes I agree that different people measure differently. The last 3 appts I've had have been with 3 different Ladies. But for me to only go up 1.5cm in 3 weeks is kinda odd to me. At least it's growth, but slow growth. I wonder if a change in diet has anything to do with it. I've been gluten and mostly dairy free for the past couple months. Maybe it's affecting the amount of weight the baby is gaining?
Thank you so much! It makes me feel better that you have gone through this as well. My DH keeps telling me the same thing, if they were really concerned about it today, they would have booked an ultrasound. They said they might next week depending on the measurements. We'll see I guess. It's not good for the baby if I'm stressing out, so I'm trying to just keep positive!
I also keep flucuating between being right on and a few weeks behind, and this is with the same measurer. My midwife is not concerned at all, as she can feel that baby is in different positions in my pelvis. This last week I was 37 weeks and measuring 35 (same as the week before, or maybe even 1 cm less), baby is way down in my pelvis. And, I do not make small babies (my last was 10.5), so if it was a 6 lb babe (which I do not think it is!), i would probably be measuring smaller still. I do think it is good that your provider is aware and willing to investigate if the trend continues.
ETA: I have also made major diet changes in the past few month (switched to vegetarian, no eggs, very little dairy). Babies take what they need to grow, so as long as you are eating a balanced diet with enough calories and protein you are fine.
