Dd has been super fussy since the end of October. We had been to the Dr who said it was just colic, dd is a fussy baby, etc. Went to a well baby check on Monday and Dd had lost a pound and a half in 5 weeks. She was admitted to the hospital, dehydrated and very low sodium levels. She has been given IV fluids and saline. Sodium levels are better, but dropping again without the IV. We still don't have any answers as to what caused all this.
Everybody (friends, family, etc) I talk to suggests it's something in my breast milk making her sick. I'm getting really tired of this. I did consent to allow the Dr's to give her some formula in the hospital, only to get her sodium levels back up until they can test my milk to see what the levels are. Dd wouldn't eat it at all. (I was secretly pretty happy about that) They can also supplement my milk with sodium. This was the first time a Dr. had suggested formula. Most of them seemed to think it was pretty great that she was breastfed. The hospital even gives breastfeeding moms 3 meals a day free of charge as long as the child is there.
I was just reading that one of my meds (metformin) can cause low sodium. I wonder if enough is passing through my milk that she is getting some?

Keep us posted, okay? I hope everything works out and SOON!
