Cleared out the colouring pencils box of old crayons/pencils. Say 30 gone.
Looks like my eBay lots are going to sell, so Ill have those on Sunday.
The girls have decided to part with their dolls and doll clothing, so it looks like they'll be put up for sale as well. Won't count them until they're sold, but I had to share my excitement at the prospect of paring down even more. Our house is starting to look that little bit more empty as each new day rolls around.. and the kids are discovering the art of simplicity.
It's still gloomy and raining, but I'm determined not to let it stop me. Once I put the little man down for his nap, I'm going to continue sorting..
Back from my sorting / decluttering for today..
I got rid of four glass jars I had been hanging onto just because. I love that category - Just because. Suddenly I am regretting my large kitchen full of space for all those 'just becauses' I had planned on keeping. Half the cupboards are empty and it looks pathetic..
7 pairs of shoes - donated.
1 ballet skirt - donated.
1 DVD - donated.
6 VHS tapes from my childhood - recycling.
1 unopened playdoh pack of 20 mini cans - donated. Counted as one item.
A present will be given back to it's rightful owner. I won't count this one as it wasn't intending on staying forever, but still glad to see the back of it.
Empty christmas tree storage box.

986 to go !
have a cleaner coming this afternoon (if she doesn't reschedule !!!) SO ... last time she came i asked her to do mainly wet dusting ...BUT am so ashamed to have stuff on so many surfaces = it spurred me on to buy a spare part for the vaccuum cleaner .... en clear up some surfaces & carry on going with my sorting through stuff !!!!
I wasn't keeping a really accurate list as I was tooo busy purging. I got rid of a ton of stuff. Going to take 200 pts total.
Included was at least 2 dozen unmatched socks--WHERE did the matches go!? And why was I keeping them SO long. Some of these have to be 4-5 years old. Which means I also moved them twice LOL GOODBYE SINGLES!
Large box of infant clothing and some cloth diapers (going through the rest this week I hope!) to a friend.
2 pairs of men's pants my oldest doesn't wear to a friend also.
And 4 huge boxes of misc 'junk' from a back recess of a my kitchen that I still hadn't tackled. (The house came from a relative and was full of stuff when I moved in!)
Sold two small things for $8 total.
635 +200 = 835/2013 and $391 in my pocket
My stbx cleared the rest of his closet out today. He moved probably 25-35 boxes over the past few weeks and it is all clear except for a headboard that he said I could freecycle. I didn't do much of the work myself (did help bring him boxes and dust stuff off a bit) but it did take a lot of work to stay on him about it. It was a delicate balance between pushing him to get it done but not pushing so hard that he would get angry about it. So, even though I didn't physically move it myself, I'm going to give myself a few points for it.
I now have a wonderful open closet that I can begin to use to organize my office. That will help a lot with my own decluttering and reorganizing process. And now all of his stuff is out of the main living areas of the house. That means that there is only my stuff to deal with now. The basement is another story for another day, though.... but this is progress!
Giving myself a credit of 10.
Well, we still have the basement room to go.... but at least I don't have to see that on a daily basis and can pretend it isn't there. If I could get him to clear that out, I'd give myself a lot more than 10 points.
Thank you, though! Yes, it does feel like a small milestone.
No, mama, you're not stubborn or cheap. I feel the same way. And actually, Christmas 2011 I had a breakthrough and passed my thoughts along to my extended family... yeah, not such a hot idea
In the past, my 3 other adult siblings and their spouses used to participate in a Kris Kringle gift exchange. Most of the gifts were gag gifts or things that were pretty useless. I expressed how my husband and I were not going to be participating b/c of our decluttering efforts and b/c we didn't want to spend money on things that eventually my siblings would get rid of or have no need for. What's the point? Especially when most of my siblings have been complaining about how much "stuff" they have (myself included). Why add to the "stuff"? Just to say you gave a gift? I LOVE the gift of clear space on shelves and room in the cabinets!!
BTW~ my family thought I was nuts and having a breakdown (forget the fact that at the time I had 5 children, now 6, who are or will be accumulating their own "stuff". I had a good reason for stopping the insanity!!)
Finally got the big bag of garbage from my office to the trash. I lost count but I will say that was about 35 things in there, probably more.
Unpacked summer clothes (seems we are skipping spring here this year!) and weeded out 20 things to donate in the process.
Total for today 55
I have an organizer coming in the morning to help me go through my office piles. She will take the stuff away for me to trash or donate at the end too. That is a hard step for me, actually getting it out of the house. So, hopefully I will have a lot more to add tomorrow.
Just did another sorting through stacks of paper waiting for DD to fall asleep. Huge bag for recycling! Probably up to 100 pieces of paper, but counting 20 since they don't make such an impact on space.
