My first appt. is tomorrow

And I am really hoping to be able to keep seeing a midwife and not get risked out to an ob. My concerns are my age (41), my weight (70 lbs too high) and a history of GD. I feel pretty well informed about weight issues and the GD, but age related stuff I haven't gotten well versed in, not to mention that it does make me kind of anxious about chromosomal abnormalities anyway.

I really want a low intervention, low stress pg and birth, like my second and third. My first was high intervention and sucked donkey eggs. orngtongue.gif

Wish me luck?! .

Good luck!! I may not end up in midwifery care due to a lack of openings (I'm on three waiting lists!) I didn't mind my experience with the family practitioners but would love the continuity of midwife care.

good luck!

I am sure you will end up with exactly the kind of care you need.  If the midwives are not comfortable taking you then it's probably not the place for you.  I would doubt that those three things would risk you out of midfiffery care, though.  They don't seem unsurmountable.

I'm overweight and and I'll be 44 tomorrow. I've also had GD and then in later pregnancies, Type 2 diabetes. Midwifery care is definitely possible. You may end up having to fight for things (like not being induced if you're postdates, as long as your blood sugar is in good control), but you should be able to find someone who will take you happily.

Thanks ladies!
Your well wishes seemed to have been the charm. orngbiggrin.gif

I met with a nurse and we went through my history (never brought up the GD heehee) and talked about the practice. She was great. DP thought so too and we a both really excited to meet the midwife on Monday for my first thorough appt. The nurse described the philosophy of the practice as one that is patient centered and keeps me in the driver's seat. So far so good!

I have an u/s in the am. on Christmas Eve as well as the appt next week.
Things are really getting rolling. This is finally starting to feel more "real".
