3 weeks postpartum- afterpains? Urethra tightness?

Is it normal to be having some afterpains 3.5 weeks after birth? I've been having them for the last few hours, they're worse while baby is nursing and immediately after but I was walking around Target and they were hurting pretty bad then, too.

Also, something weird is going on with my urethra and I don't know if it's normal, or a concern. It doesn't hurt while I am peeing, but when I go to "stop the flow" it tightens up and there's lots of pressure... I wouldn't exactly call it painful, although it sometimes does kind of hurt. Occasionally I'll feel the same tightness/pain when I'm not peeing, like when I go to sit down if I've been doing a lot. I can't feel anywhere that hurts if I feel around down there. I do have one stitch that is very close to that area though (I had two labial tears, both were first degree and minor but the midwife stiched them because labial tears can heal together)...while pushing my urethra/clitoris area hurt so bad I was certain it was going to tear in half and the pains I get remind me of that pain on a small scale.

I'm glad you brought this up because I am 4 weeks postpartum and experiencing both of these things too. I a feeling crampy as we speak and I also have a weird feeling in my urethra too. Like you, not pain exactly, but I'd describe it more as a "tugging" or "pulling" sensation. I had my urethra looked at by an NP when I thought I had a bladder infection and she said it looked "awesome" - no bruising or tearing - so I don't know what's up. Hopefully these things will just get better with time!

Hehe, I was nursing today, felt a little bit of cramps and thought WTF???? This late in the game? We're 3.5 weeks out too.

Also- I think I'm not healing terribly well this time around. Too active too soon I suppose. I had 3 stitches and they have been feeling burning/painful this week. Midwife told me to apply an anitbiotic cream with a q-tip after every time I pee. Hopefully that will help...

Have you called your OB/Midwife? I'm sure they'd be able to answer any questions...

Just coming back to this post because I had my postpartum appt yesterday and was assured that both these things are normal. Did you have a catheter? I did...two, in fact, and for a while... That's what she said the urethra pain is and that it can take a while to go away. She wasn't specific on timeline since i'm sure everyone is different, but i was reassured to know it's normal.

I didn't have one at any point...I have a MW appt in a few days though so I will ask her if it's still normal if you didn't have a catheter.

Whew, its not just me!  I'm about to have DH go get more crampbark, I'm down to one dose in my fourth bottle.
