Hey, I've only just joined Mothering.com today, and was wondering if there are many/any SC moms here? Just introducing myself. I have a 3 year old daughter and am expecting my second baby in May.
New to the site, live in SC
Eh...I've got a hospital and a doctor because my husband is terrified of the idea of a home birth. We met with the only midwife around with the last baby, but he just couldnt' get over the idea of not having a doctor around. My plan is to deliver in the same small hospital I was in the last time. Everything went pretty well mostly because I was a first time mom and they thought I'd be in labor forever (I didn't tell them exactly when my water broke, or they wouldn't have left me alone for so long, I'm sure) so they left the two of us alone until just before I started pushing. It definitely wasn't my vision of "natural", but it was drug free and probably as intervention free as one can expect in a hospital around here. I'm hoping to be slightly more in control this time, but the biggest lesson I learned was not to worry about it so much. In my experience with this doctor and her staff, very few patients are informed enough to even refuse some of the prenatal testing, so I'm a complete anomoly with them. They don't quite know what to do with me, so things have gone pretty well.
FYI, I live in the Pee Dee which I'm pretty sure is the least crunchy of all the regions of the state, so it's nice to find some more Southerners here on Mothering. I've been poring over the site for years now.
Hi! I'm in SC (also near the SC/NC line). I have a 1.5 year old and we've JUST moved back to the area after living in FL and AZ for the past 8 years. Hoping to start trying for #2 sometime next year if all our plans work out. We literally aren't even trying yet but I've already done a tiny bit of local research to get an idea what I'll do next time. First time wasn't horrible, but I didn't even bother to do any research and didn't even realize there was a really nice birth center near the hospital where I actually had my son.
I live in the Upstate as well! We have been here for 5 years now, and are about to adopt through the foster care system.
I had a baby here in 2009, but went the hospital route because I wanted painkillers (and because homebirth midwives can't legally suture lacerations here in SC, and I always lacerate).
There is an AP meetup group comprised of Greenville area mamas and some from farther afield: http://www.meetup.com/attachmentparenting-450/
Hey! I just joined the site today. I am in the Upstate (Greenville area). I am expecting my first child at the end of May/beginning of June!
On a different note, does anyone have experience with Greenville Midwifery Care or other natural birth friendly options? I am changing care providers at 22 weeks...I just had a horrifying experience with the licensed midwife we had employed for a home birth, and feel totally burned by the experience.
