I am the mother of an 8 year old girl who has had encopresis(fecal soiling) for 1.5 years now. About six months after the encopresis started she developed bladder problems too. She was completely potty trained before that. We have seen so many doctors I have lost count. We finally decided to do an MRI last month, at the urging of her pediatric gastroenterologist. The results were "inconclusive". We are waiting for an appointment with a neurosurgeon in January to interpret the MRI results. My understanding is that she does not have full blown tethered cord, but may have some tethered cord-like symptoms (tight filium??). It's all very convoluted and confusing. Noone seems to know what is wrong with her, but the doctors seem to think that the neurosurgeon might want to do surgery. Was wondering if any mamas out there have had experience with this sort of thing, either tethered cord or something like it.
