How do you cut down on bloat?

My digestion has been amazing this pregnancy up until this point. It is still pretty good as far as being regular (and not too regular, ahem) but now I get that bloated, going to pop feeling in the evenings. All I can think of is to eat smaller amounts at a time but the bloat is almost always in the evening no matter how slow I eat.

I hear you BaileyB. I felt really really bloated very early in this pregnancy but its eased up over the last 2 weeks (I am 12weeks along) I haven't really changed my eating habits but not as bloated anymore.

Do you eat a lot of raw veggies?  I'm in my third pregnancy, and It feels like all I have to do is take 3 bites of anything and I'm a blimp, too -- but just one bite of raw broccoli sends me over the edge.  I think it is definitely key to find what makes you feel better -- sometimes I have a little seltzer with my meal, and also if I get up after I eat and talk a brief walk, that makes it better.  Or when you feel that bloat, get up and do a few exercises.  Good luck and welcome to the club!

Have you tried Pro-biotics?  Do they help?

I have been good so far this pregnancy, but it's typically something I experience.  They have to be the ones you keep in the fridge, and in greater concentrations then in just yogurt (though that helps too).  If it gets particularly bad I also use Bio-K drinks (available in most health food stores in a fridge).

Good luck.

I drink coffee and orange juice in the morning and then nothing but water the rest of the day. I also watch my intake of salt after lunch. Lastly, after dinner is when I get the worst bloat....I lay down on the couch on my left side and change to my belly every few minutes..if its gas it usually has an easier time leaving this way. If its not gas I always feel better after laying down for about 15 minutes or so. GL!

I deal with it by doing a reverse eating pattern (big breakfast, smaller lunch, afternoon snack, tiny dinner), so at least I don't feel terrible at night when I want to go to sleep.

I've noticed it helps to avoid certain foods as well.

Also, peppermint tea helps me a lot.

My bloat tends to go down if I'm drinking more water, so you might try increasing fluid intake. Also, my IVF nurse said that extra fiber is problematic if you are really gassy. It's good once things have settled, but not until then. I was having major gas and constipation issues as of yesterday, but they are already better based on her advice.
