Crafty Mamas!

Anyone already started making things for their baby?

I haven't made anything yet, but I did find some really cute fabric yesterday. I'm hoping to make a quilt and decorate clothes before August. I'm looking forward to seeing other projects!

I don't even want to think about it until after the holidays.  ;)  But I just started knitting, so I'm sure I'll do some hats.  I started a simple sweater recently as well (before I knew) that I had bought supplies for before DS was born.  Um yeah, that was almost 5 years ago... lol.gif

I recently got a new sewing machine too, so I'd love to decorate some onesies or something with some simple animal shapes.  We'll see what I have time for, my ideas are always bigger than my allotment of time.  :)

I'm not the greatest finisher of projects. I just finished a scarf for my 14 mo and am in the middle of a matching hat. This is of course made difficult by the kiddo snatching my yarn and running with it. :-) kid #2 is still low on the list of projects.

I have my own online business of crochet items for babies/children.  I'm looking forward to having my own model next fall!  My poor baby will wear both boy and girl items for photography regardless of gender, lol.  Poor thing!  Hopefully I can take some time away from making for others to make for my own baby!  My three kids now kind of get the short end of the stick because I'm so busy!

I was really crafty last time.  I want to make this one a quilt just like I did for my daughter with my DS's help.  I knitted a ton during my last pregnancy.  We'll see what happens this time.

I got the stuff for quilts. I decided I am tired of making neutral ones so I will make a girly and a boyish one.

I need new covers for my change pad.

Then I want to make a few fun newborn summer things for the first month/six weeks until fall.

I finally got my craft room really set up this spring and have been doing so much sewing etc. I started a board on pintrest (secret) of things to do for Iggy. This is also the first time we have had a nursery (Monkey came home to a one bedroom apt and Bee came less than 3 weeks after we moved and her 'room' was still a closet) so I want to have fun with it.

I want to do some knitting......maybe some soakers and longies for next fall and winter.  But yea, I can't even thinking about it until after Christmas....and hopefully by then my second trimester creative energy will have kicked in and I won't just fall asleep every time I sit down!  :)

Oh! I just remembered, DH once got me a book all about making little felt animals, I need to dig that out too...

Soon as the holidays are over, I will start some knitting up some hats for this LO.  Maybe I'll even finish a baby blanket that was meant for my BF second son who was born 18 mos ago or the afghan that I started 5 years ago!!!

yeahthat.gif Exactly what I mean by "not a finisher". I so love to get the raw materials for something but never ever complete it. Sheepish.gif

That's ok, I love buying them from you at the garage sale winky.gif

I have so many project ideas in the works and patterns filed away, but am waiting a while to start. I'm going to get my mom on board with the knitting projects too. I usually take a while to complete projects, but tiny baby things will be so much quicker!

I washed my bamboo fleece to make fitted diapers out of. When I'm not so nauseas I'll start sewing them up. I'd love to get a snap press, but will most likely start with pliers in the meantime.

I've added patterns to my ravelry que to knit some longies. I've actually started on a washcloth that will be for baby.

southernmommie - do you have any favourite yarns to use for longies? I'm planning to knit up a bunch, but I'm not sure what the best yarn to use would be. I don't want them to be too scratchy on newborn skin, but I want them to be absorbant.

I haven't bought any yarn for it yet. Just saved some patterns in my que. Not sure what yarns to buy or which brands are best.

I'll definitely make...something! Haven't decided yet. For DD I made a hat, some knit toys, some pants and a few diaper covers.

I found a great explanation of a few types of yarn that are good for Longies/Soakers on Three Irish Girls. If we're not allowed to share links, please let me know and I'll remove it. I thought it might be helpful to first time longie knitters like me! I picked up a couple skeins in Cary's BFL since I remember a friend also saying they love BFL for longies, and can't wait to get knitting. I think I'm going to knit them into shorties for this mid-August babe.

Does anyone have any favourite patterns (any type of craft) they want to share? It'd be great to get some more ideas!

I get most if my patterns on Ravelry. I love that site. I have the same username in there if anyone want to see my projects. I almost done with a pair of monster longies that I am making for a non CDer. I made it from cotton-ease, which is the only acrylic blend I like. I actually really love it. It's so soft, it has a beautiful drape, and it's really inexpensive. I use it for hats a lot. I'll post a pic when I'm done.

I like Malabrigo wool a lot too, but that's a garment yarn, it wouldn't be good for soakers smile.gif

I got several different wools in group buys some time ago. I guess I should go ahead and try to make some woollies for this LO, huh? I have a book that I ordered from a WAHM a few years ago Called, "Knitting Wool Diaper Covers from Start to Finish" on hyena cart. I like it, its small and I can carry it with me. I bet you could find a used one in amazon for even less.

I sat down this morning and drew out quilt patterns and figured out what I want to do. Of course I bough the fabric first so I have not quite enough to do the cool zig zag quilt I liked. Oh well, it can be Monkey's big boy quilt next year.

Pinning baby crafts and sewing stuff on pintrest has apparently made everyone I know on Pintrest suspect Iggy. My boss was totally not surprised when I told her this week.

I have 4 baby quilts to make before August. 1 for a friend who has a shower in 3 weeks, 1 for my DH's best friend who has a lovely huge 4 mos old, one spare as babies keep popping up, and one for ours.
