Cloth Pads

Just curious who in our group is a cloth pad user? What brands do you love? Not love? Favorites for post-partum? Best deals?

I use cloth about half the time but I'm a heavy bleeder and find that I have to change them much more often then I have to use the restroom which can be rather inconvienent. I've got a mix of Glad Rags and Luna Pads and a couple that I got off of etsy but can't remember who made them. I'd like to pick up some more, especially overnight/postpartum sizes for when my little man arrives. I'd love some feedback & suggestions from you lovely ladies!

I like the fleece backed ones here:

I've used Mother of Eden but fleece/microfiber down there really isn't my thing so I don't use them all the time and especially not post partum

I've also folded a couple of wash cloths and used those.

I'd love to hear more about this! I was using a diva cup during my periods, but obviously can't postpartum, and I distinctly remember discovering that disposable pads slowed healing WAY down last time. I definitely want to grab some mama cloth!

I'm a cloth user, too.  I used to HATE pads, sposie or cloth.  Loved my Diva Cup.  But I've been able to use my Diva less and less comfortably after each baby, so I've been using cloth pads more frequently.

I haven't ever bought "brand name" ones, just a variety of ones off of Etsy and Hyena Cart.  Aside from pantiliners, I'm pretty limited to only pads with a layer of PUL or something similar, as I bleed a lot.  Found some awesome ones for overnight (long enough and shaped right in all the right places) but I'm a heavy bleeder too and so I still have one or two nights where I just use a toddler prefold.  It's major bulk, but at least I can sleep through the night without waking a lot and worrying about bleeding onto my sheets!!!!

I've never used cloth pads PP before but I probably will this time, likely the prefolds at night and sometimes at home.  Will still use my giant peach pads and mesh undies (YES!!  I LOVE THE COMBO!!  I am weird, I know!!) that first day or two, though, because I like to have them soaked in witch hazel and frozen, and I just couldn't figure out how to accomplish that with cloth in any way that appealed to me.  But I tend to only bleed heavily for a couple days max and then it's only light for about a week or so, then just spotting off and on for another week maybe.

I like the PUL-lined ones from WeeEssentials on Etsy. But I really like using cups. I have a Diva and a...um, what's the brand from Germany? I prefer that one because they come with different stems and stemless. The stem on the Diva is uncomfortable for me. I'll use the cloth pads (usually panty-liners) as back-up just in case my cup leaks (which is very seldom). But I love my cup. The German one can be worn for 12 hours at a time, which is fantastic. I change it once before bed, and once in the shower (which makes clean up super easy).

But I'll probably be using disposables for post-partum bleeding, especially since I read about soaking them with witch hazel and freezing them.

Ummm...I wear my DIva cup for 12 hours at a time when my flow isn't at it's heaviest. Have the recommendations on that changed?  I've had it for almost 10 years...

I think I remember it being 8 hours when I got mine a year or two ago. But I could be mistaken.

I've always worn mine like that when I have a really light flow.  Though I admit, I probably would even if it wasn't the recommendation. bag.gif

Looks like the Diva website still says 10-12 hours though!

1babysmom I had the same problem with the Diva being uncomfortable (and by that I mean excruciating pain, particularly in my cervix/bowel).  So I tried some new brands and had much more success with a softer, shorter cup.  It helped a lot!  I also use mama cloth postpartum and for cup backup...I get so sore from disposables it is ridiculous!  So I only use them for extended trips out or the very immediate flow that is very heavy (I have hemmorrhaged more than once).

Yikes, that sounds miserable!

For me it wasn't nearly that bad, it was more an issue of it just not fitting well anymore (well, less after each baby).  I always cut the stem off of mine so never had to deal with that, but I have considered trying a different cup.  I've just been able to get my hands on my last 3 Diva's for cheap or free so I couldn't get myself to pay for a different one at that rate!
