Article from vaxtruth on pro-vax tactics to get people to vaccinate

Thread Starter

I am sure many of us know these - but for any newbies:

http://vactruth.com/2012/12/18/5-powerful-psychological-triggers/

The article is titled (although I personally would cross out doctor and insert pro-vax movement)

"Do You Know the 5 Powerful Psychological Triggers Your Doctor Uses to Vaccinate Your Child?"

Here are the five points:

1.  Power of authority

2.  Guilt tripping or shaming

3.  Sense of urgency - wanting to do it now

4.  Fear of loss - that a doctor may fire you

5  promise of hope (vaccines are essential to staying healthy!)

People who vaccinate should do so because they have weighed the pros and cons and decided the pros outweigh the cons.  Period.  Shame, pleas to authority, threats of being fired should have nothing to do with it!

There was a link on an older thread listing the same tactics used by those supporting fluoridated water.

The fear tactic is used for many things by doctors. Prenatal vitamins, infant vitamins, prescriptions, surgeries. I'm not saying these things have no value. I'm saying only that it's important to make decisions based on information, not fear. I don't know why fear seems to be used so often.

Wouldn't actual information, presented in a respectful manner, be just as successful? Maybe even more so? I listen better when the speaker assumes I'm intelligent and the tone reflects that assumption. Fear mongering assumes something else.

Fear is the most basic of emotions, our desire to avoid pain at all cost drives us to make decisions out of fear. The medical profession, he media, our government etc utlilizes this with great success.
