How to potty train a stubborn 3 year old.

Hi all,

Can any one of you share some ideas as to how to potty train a 3 year old. 

He absolutely refuses to use the potty. My day care lady says that he uses it in the morning in the day care but at home he refuses to use it. I am in my final trimester of pregnancy and by the end of the day after work and feeding him I am so exhausted that I just put him in diapers.

But now i am really worried. He has just joined montesorrie and is crying everyday to go to school. Do you suggest waiting for some more time before starting his potty training. 

I first plan to ditch the diapers and pull ups and put him in underwear. Though i am not sure how to handle in the night time. 

Please any help appreciated. I am emotionally down nowadays and its really become difficult to keep my sanity.

The naked method is usually a good place to start. When at home, let him run around bottomless and have potties nearby. Some kids really love to do it on their own terms and if you provide him with the opportunities, he could very well run with it. I say multiple potties because some kids are great at going provided there is a potty two steps away but won't cross a whole room to get to one. Staying dry at night is different and it's very standard practice to diaper a child at night while pottying during the day. I don't have much time but hope this gives you an idea on how to start. Many boys don't potty train until closer to 3.5-4 years old.  I would just let it go for a few more months - he may regress once the new baby is born anyway.  IME it's easier to have a toddler in diapers than take them to the potty every hour or two, especially with a new baby in the house.
