chicken pox: mild case need re-exposure?

all three of my children got chicken pox the ol' natural way 2 years ago (they were ages 10 months, 3 and 5). my son got them first (the 3 year old) but he didn't get very many. a few on his torso, a few on his face but it was hard to know what it was until his sisters came down with it a few days later and they got it BAD, there was no question what he had at that point. so my question is: should i try to re-expose my son when given the opportunity? i'm afraid how bad he will get it, but also don't think that he got it bad enough for it to count. i am due in January and figure the next time chicken pox comes around that baby will be 8-9 months and i'm just basically thinking ahead.

thanks!

He's probably been re-exposed already and you just don't know it.

I got the chicken pox twice growing up. Once when I was really young (I think I was 1) and I only had a couple. The second time I think I was around 5. The second time I don't think you could call it a mild case.

When I had my rubella titer (aka serologic confirmation of immunity) checked during pregnancy, I just asked my midwife to have the lab check for varicella immunity, as well. A simple blood test will answer your questions. :-) Some family physicians and pediatricians do it in house, and others refer you to a hospital lab. Insurance usually covers it, but call ahead if you have any doubts.
