Cravings?

I'm curious as to what if anything you ladies have been craving. I don't have one specific thing that I crave. It changes almost from week to week. At first I wanted popcorn, and then it was apples and mangos. These days its plantains. (I am Dominican - born in the US but both parents from the Dominican Republic.) I kind of expected to have one food that I always craved and I don't. I crave cookies and sweats... and unfortunately fried food a lot of times. What about the rest of you? Any bizarre constant cravings?

My last pregnancy, the only thing I really craved was cinnamon, no one really noticed because I always go for cinnamon everything. This time, I've had a lot more cravings which maybe just different pregnancies or maybe because of twins making for more hormones or maybe some of both!

Milk pretty consistently, that's been my one consistent craving so far. It helps with the pretty consistent heartburn too, but I really have been craving it. It is weird as while I like milk fine, I haven't drank it like this since I was a kid, usually nowadays I drink water, hot tea, diet pop or adult beverages smile.gif

As for random stuff: ice cream (I try to go for greek frozen yogurt so at least it has some good protein), meat of all types or sometimes just a general craving for meat, Chinese food, general craving for soup (pretty much any soup will do though sometimes I want something specific), cheese, yogurt, chocolate, cinnamon pop tarts, peanut butter, etc. Lots of dairy/protein cravings this time around, so I try to go with them and make them as healthful as possible as I do need dairy/protein upped anyway. And when I eat too much refined carbs (had a few too many cookies over Christmas) it makes me feel a bit sick to my stomach which never happens normally, so I think my body is trying to tell me something redface.gif

My cravings have been pretty consistent with what I would crave monthly if I wasn't pregnant; junk food, meatball sandwiches, onion rings, cheese fries, chinese food, jalepeno cheddar cheetos.

My random cravings have included; chips and salsa, cheese (not that I don't normally adore cheese but it's taken on a life of it's own now), bananas, beer (I don't even like beer!), apples, strawberries.

I could eat the hell out of some jalepeno cheddar cheetos right now.

Quinalla - I was craving soup for a while there too!

Timesway and Amanda - are you ladies going to find out the sex of your babies? If so do you know yet?

Timeway - reading your post made me want Chips and Salsa and the bf just happens to be making a grocery run right now so I called him and added that to the list eat.gif

I should have also added the question of aversions to my original post. Since I've been pregnant I can not stand steak anymore. At all. Really I don't like red meat in general anymore. It's odd because I used to love it...upsidedown.gif

hehe.. im expecting a boy kristin :)

I've had some aversions, but normally it is once I smell something, I'm like "I'm not eating that!" Occasionally something DH will suggest just sounds yucky which is usually, I'm up for almost any food most of the time. Hmm, specifics, DH made some onion rings in the oven last night and those did not smell appealing at all!

I've been craving tortilla chips off and on my whole pregnancy, but I don't think that really counts since I've been craving tortilla chips off and on since I moved to Romania--it's one of the only things from home that we can't get here and I LOVE them. I'm afraid that when I visit the states I'm going to want to include tortilla chips with every meal for a month!

I haven't really had any other specific cravings, but I do have some aversions. Liver, which I didn't ever really like but used to be able to stand. Now, no. DH really likes it, so we have it about once a week for lunch. I eat something else. Broth soup, which we eat every day (cultural thing--lunch two courses: broth soup followed by whatever else), just doesn't sound good to me anymore. Ocassionally I'll eat a very small bowl, but most days I just sit and chat with DH while he finishes his soup and then jump in four the second course.

My weirdest aversion, however, is bread. I can't stand the smell or taste of bread unless it's been toasted. We eat a lot of soups and stews, which DH eats with bread, but I do not. Sometimes I'll toast myself a couple of slices, but sometimes I don't. MIL (she lives with us) scolds me regularly for not eating enough bread and says that I need to take better care of myself now that I'm eating for two, but I'm not too concerned since it's just plain white bread and not particularly healthy anyway, haha.

I am loving pineapple and clementines -- eating them every day for a week now.  For months I've been eating steak twice a week which is way more than usual.  Also especially liking humus, cucumbers, mild cheese (I was previously into the strong stuff but that makes me gag now), and anything crunchy & salty.

I do feel like I'm almost always hungry and eating a lot, but my weight gain has been right on target according to my doctor so I'll continue to follow my cues & enjoy myself!

When I was pregnant with DS it was raw brocolli with dip (odd, I know, but I could not get enough!) and milk.

This time, it seems to be PB, milk, and NACHOS.  I sort of have a hard time chalking the nachos up to a "craving" since I always love them, but it's been taken to a whole new level this pregnancy and I am having nachos 3 or so times a week (and I'd have them more if I could but I am resisiting the urge as best I can!).  They are not the WORST (tortilla chips, cheddar cheese, salsa, sour cream) but not a good, healthy craving like brocolli either.

Not a craving, but I've been enjoying bananas more than usual (likely as a result of enjoying PB so much since I'll often just slather PB right onto a banana) and have been eating more eggs than normal as well.

I really have been digging Cheerios with a banana sliced up on top here lately and milk of course. Usually plain Cheerios even with fruit is a bit bland for me, but it's been sounding awesome.

Gummy bears.  Gummy worms.  Gummy whatever.  I can't.  Stop.  Eating them.

I have spent the last week and a half wishing i could live off dark chocolate and egg nog.  I don't beat myself up over occasional indulgences but I probably don't need them more than once a day and I'm having a hard time stopping at one or two little squares of chocolate.

Other than that plain yogurt  with a couple drops of stevia and strawberries.  Mmmmmmmmm.  That one is healthy at least!

I have a good one!  A story of triumph!

The past month I've been craving a particular sandwich from a particular shop... that closed about a year ago.  D'oh!  Last night I recreated it and had it over pasta (couldn't figure out how to recreate the bread, it was soooooo good).  The sandwich was chicken, mushrooms, and bacon in a mustard cream sauce.  So I sauteed bacon with mushrooms and onions, simmered in chicken stock and a little white wine, then added whole milk and some dijon mustard.  YUM YUM YUM.  Craving satisfied.  Victory!  I am having it for leftovers again soon, and so excited.

The other specific craving I've had is for orange slice candy of all things.  I get that cravings may mean our body wants something specific, but orange slice candy?  Wha...??  I've had that craving pop up twice now.

That sounds AMAZING (the sandwich).  I have chicken tenders, peas & carrots, salad, and oven fries on the menu tonight, but we may have to make a change . . .

I love those orange slice candies!  Someone brought cookies with the orange slice candies in them to DH's family cookie exchange.  They were yummy!  Never heard of that before....

Cheerios! I cannot get enough of them! I want to eat them for every meal!

We don't do boxed cereal at all around here but my craving would just.not.go.away. So, I gave in & bought 2 enormous bags of generic cheerios & introduced my children to the joys of boxed cereal. LOL!!

I especially love it with frozen cherries on top. ;)  I think I'll have some right now...

And if it's not Cheerios, it's grapefruit. My tongue is practically decomposing from all the grapefruits I've been chowing down on. They give me cold sores. Hmph.

After a large, balanced supper tonight, I had a craving for brownies. I ate some fruit and tried to get the craving to go away. Nope. So I gave in and whipped up a batch of brownies. After pulling them out of the oven, cutting them, and giving a piece to DH, I no longer wanted brownies. I didn't even eat a bite of them. Instead, I wanted scrambled eggs with cheese. So, I scrambled up 3 eggs with cheese and inhaled them. After the eggs, I wanted brownies again, so finally had one.

Crazy cravings! dizzy.gif

Also... water. Been drinking so much water! Room temperature, no ice.
