question about tearing.....

So, if DH agrees to a UC, if I tear, how do we deal with that? Does DH have to learn to stitch it up if its too big?  I didn't tear with my last two (well I did with my second, but didn't need stitches), but I'd like to be prepared for anything.

No; I would not recommend getting stitches from someone who doesn't have experience with suturing, especially in such a sensitive area. 

 

If you have a tear that you think needs stitches, I would ask a friendly midwife for help, otherwise you need to go to the hospital for stitching.

A family member of mine needed stitches after her home birth. She went into hospital for suturing then returned to her bub at home.

I definitely wouldn't have anybody but a trained professional do stitches. I would have a back-up plan including a midwife or hospital in case you need something such as suturing done.

Firstly know your tears. I'm comfortable w/ treating a first degree tear on my own, w/ ice & honey. Anything above that & I would go in to the ER. They do stitches all the time & developing a fistula or prolapse of some kind is not something I'm comfortable w/.
