Yesterday, I was scheduled to have my four wisdom teeth extracted. I received a pre-observation conference six weeks prior to the surgery date and was informed of a possible removal of an additional molar teeth that was atop an abcess. It was also offered to me to have this particular tooth treated with antibiotics followed by a root canal. I elected to have ONLY my four wisdom teeth extracted and then to later go in and be treated for the second/third molar on the bottom right side of my mouth. On the day of my oral surgery, I awaken to discovered that ALL five teeth had been extracted/removed and since I was still under the effects of the anesthesia, I dont recall any conversations with the attending dentist or nurses in the room at the time. There was NO discussion prior to the surgery as to the fifth teeth being extracted and my military orders for the procedure ONLY indicated the four wisdom teeth extraction. Now, I am dismayed, ANGRY, feeling violated and distrusting of the people that I believed would cause NO HARM! How could this dentist do that to me without consulting me about this matter and without my written consent and without the military's written order to have such a procedure done. Someone PLEASE HELP ME understand what just happened to me? Extremely sad and wildered by such malfeasance!

Hmm Kim, I used to be pretty familiar with law so I wish I could help but I'll let you know a lot of lawyers don't handle dental malpractice since they work on a contingency basis- which means they get a fixed percentage of a settlement that you receive. This is why most lawyers worth their salt wont take a case if you just got bumped around I bit. But I DO know that pulling the wrong tooth is considered dental malpractice (I'd be livid myself) and that some lawyers do take these sort of cases.
Usually what they cover in a personal injury settlement is stuff like pain and suffering, reduced quality of life etc.
They would probably also cover the cost of a implant as well which looks and functions just like a real tooth but is very expensive- about $4000. Sorry im not of much help ._.
