Finally!

My ds reads his essay on the Third Commandment this Sunday, and is being confirmed next Sunday!

Anyone else with a confirmand or bar/batmitzvah coming up??

My almost 16 year old is being confirmed on Sat night .

This has been a time of growth for sure --making me rethink /learn about Catholic teachings .He is so questioning the "church".Not that I agree with the way things have been in the church history, etc.

I am glad to see such rites of passage though for teens .In the Luthern Church we had confirmation as a 12-13 year old --maybe a bit young -maybe not .

Now what to get him for a gift??

Hi, Jasmommie!

Thanks for replying! I knew we couldn't be the only ones out there.

My ds has really been pondering, too. Very healthy.

I wonder if we should move religious comments to the religion thread, or maybe I should have posted there in the first place. I agree, these rites of passage are important for our teens, as much as a coming of age celebration as a religious ceremony. Especially for the boys, imo.

Posting here, I'm wondering if you're having a party, and what you're serving, etc. I get so nervous hosting parties. I teased ds that I was going to serve the traditional German Lutheran dish, a huge vat of sauerkraut! LOL

We're keeping it very simple, as I've not been working since the baby 15 months ago, and we had a HS grad party a year ago, and have a freshman in college. Ds will throw chicken on the grill (praying for good weather) and I'm making sloppy joes.

And I haven't ordered his gift yet! I'd better get online today and have it next day'd!!!

Actually ,the church is having a cookies & punch get together after the mass --so it is cookie making time.

I got a cross with a dove on it to hang on his wall--very simple but nice.

Oh, how nice that the church has a reception like that!

What a nice gift.

I finally looked at the website, after receiving the catalog from our synod, and tried to order a cross of nails on a cord, thought ds would appreciate that, especially after seeing "the Passion," but they were out. So we settled on an "emblem of Luther" pendent. I liked that, too. Hope it has meaning for him.

I forgot, is yours this Sunday, too?

Saturday evening --we go to a Catholic Church---Sunday mass is for the First Communion (cute children in dressy white clothes!)--works for me though --I work on wekkends so we go to evening mass.

My son was very moved by The Passion also-saw it 2 times.

Have a great time!

Oh, yes, Saturday night mass, wish we had that! I'd never miss!

When I was a little girl, I wanted to have First Communion, well, mostly a First Communion dress. I also wanted to be a nun, like my cousin on my father's side, Sr. Maria Compassionata. Then my mother told me that wasn't possible, not being Catholic... :

Our children have their First Communion at their Confirmation service.

Congratulations, and enjoy!!! I'll be thinking about your family tomorrow night!
