That's an interesting read. My homebirth turned into a hospital birth because labour had been going for 36 hours with little progress. They gave me drugs to speed it up and I ended up haemorrhaging due to a tear. I'm now wondering if I would've had that problem if it wasn't for the drugs. I did also lie on my back because I was afraid to move in case I dislodged the drip. The whole thing put me off the idea of future homebirths in case it happened at home, but now I'm not so sure.

But at the same time, they say that haemorrhages are more common in hospitals than home births. Surely that's because more people give birth in hospitals?

i wouldnt trust anything from the dailymail to be very accurate it is a tabloid paper. I will have to read the study.

Here ya go:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23157856

"CONCLUSIONS:

Women and their partners should be advised that the risk of PPH is higher among births planned to take place in hospital compared to births planned to take place at home, but that further research is needed to understand (a) whether the same pattern applies to the more life-threatening categories of PPH, and (b) why hospital birth is associated with increased odds of PPH. If it is due to the way in which labour is managed in hospital, changes should be made to practices which compromise the safety of labouring women."
