Handmade Holidays 2013

Thread Starter

So after lurking for three years on the Handmade Holidays threads, I figured that it was finally time to commit to a fully handmade year. I've cranked out two gifts already since Christmas for this coming year (as you can see, I'm a bit excited). I can't wait to see all the inspiring posts from you all and to keep my creative juices flowing. You crafty mamas have given me so many ideas and projects to do over the years...Let's keep them coming!!

Cheers to the New Year and let's get crafting!!

Marking my place...

I'm in again this year!  I already have plans for what I'm doing for extended family...just waiting for ancestry.com to have their annual membership reduction!  Plus I'm going to focus on cross-stitching since I was freecycled a TON of aida cloth and embroidery floss years ago and want to start working through my crafting supplies before buying more.

Oh, and I have big plans on things to make for our house for next year's holiday. :)

Well, my family celebrates New Years, so I have one day left to finish my projects for this year!

My MIL already told me she wants more knitted cowls so I know what I'm making for her for next year.

After two long years...my living room curtains are DONE!!!! This was going to be a Christmas present to myself, but it's turned into an early Imbolc present instead...

Here's a close up of the handmade clay tile "buttons" I used for a finishing touch:

My living room has a botanical feel to it as I am absolutely in love with old hand drawn and painted plant fienld guides from the early 1900s. I've printed, matted and framed some of those field guide pages on the opposite wall, but I wanted something to tie it to the fabric I chose.

Now I'm itching to do some curtains for my kitchen!!

That's was my plan for this year but I got the flu and didn't get bottles or vodka in time and it just fell by the wayside. I think I'm definitely doing it for 2013. It's so easy and is always appreciated/used.

I always use vodka, usually Sky brand and it's great!  I always joke that for the first month it is just vanilla vodka and you can just drink it and the second month it is useless and then the third month it is finally extract!

Oooh, maybe I will make one of each!

I use vodka, too. I've had some with beans in it for *years* and it. is. awesome. !! Seriously dump some beans in a bottle now and you'll have amazing vanilla by Christmas 2013. It's not a super cheap gift, but will be well loved.

I wanted to do vanilla last year, but getting it shipped to NZ is a pain and one guy wouldn't get back to me about bulk beans... so I sort of forgot about it. Also, most of my friends and family don't cook. I could give some to my parents (who wouldn't really get it, but my little sisters would bake with it), and some to my parents-in-law... oh, I guess SIL would like some. And maybe two other friends... OK, maybe it is worth doing!

Mostly I want to hoard it for myself though. :p So, anyone know the best place to get cheap good beans that ship internationally? Here in my city you can only buy them two at a time, for about $9 a pop. It's ridiculous.
